BigSqwert
LINK A CTA Green Line train has derailed on the South Side's Washington Park neighborhood Wednesday morning. Mutiple injuries have been reported. An EMS Plan I and still and box alarm were called at 10:10 a.m. for a reported derailment near 5900 S. Prairie Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez. About 10:35 a.m. the response was raised to an EMS Plan II, which sends a total of 10 ambulances to the scene. As of 10:30 a.m., only minor injuries had been reported, Rodriguez said, though she did not know the nature or number of the injured, and said the information was very preliminary. Rodriguez said a four-car train was involved in the derailment, and she believed only one car had left off the track. Unconfirmed fire radio communications said three cars of a four-car train may be derailed. CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said the Green Line train derailed about 10:10 a.m. at the 59th Stret junction near Garfield, and all trains were being stopped between 63rd and 35th. Power has been shut off on the line from 35th to 63rd, and trains are being turned from south to north at 35th. Green Line service is temporarily suspended between 63rd 35th, according to the CTA Web site. A bus shuttle is in place in both directions from 63rd to 35th on Ashland and Cottage Grove. RockRaines
Not surprised, the condition of the tracks and the train system is deplorable in a big city like this. Its embarrassing actually.
Jenksismyhero
Pretty scary. I'm a daily Red Line commuter and probably once a month I think to myself "man that'd suck if this thing derailed underground..."
lostfan
These types of things happen more than I assume y'all think. Just ask a CTA employee when they're not on the clock. They'll tell you the train system is ridiculously in need of upgrading. If Chicago gets the Olympics in 2016, hopefully there will be a nice windfall of cash to help the CTA out with that. RockRaines
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Pretty scary. I'm a daily Red Line commuter and probably once a month I think to myself "man that'd suck if this thing derailed underground..." even worse when its on the track above ground. Think of that blue line to ohare if it derailed when it was in Wicker park hitting all those bumps. right off the track into a house, or pedestrians, not to mention the people inside.
