Can't Help Being Pessimistic

Recommended Posts

It begins with the last game in Tampa Bay, and we all know how tough they are. They're gonna want to do whatever it takes to win that last game of the series, and with our lack of hitting, we're gonna need another miracle on the mound to take the last game of the series. Then we come home to play KC, and it's almost inevitable there will be an embarrassing turnout for those 3 midweek night games. All the talk in town will be about the amazing Cubs and the buzz they're generating, and with only 22,000 in attendance, bringing them down to #20 in average attendance, it could be very disheartening for the team and I can easily see KC stealing those games. Then we play MIN and DET.. nothing is gonna come easy. What I'm dreading most is the series vs the Cubs. We can't hit a damn thing, it's not a slump, we just can't hit, period. Thome, Konerko, Swisher, all easy strikeouts. I wouldn't be surprised seeing the Cubs getting a no hitter vs us, and that would send 2/3 of this city into a frenzy. The series at the Cell will most likely have more Cubs fans in attendance than Sox fans this year, since they're coming off a playoff appearance, they're in first place, they have the best record in baseball, and our season ticket base has completely dropped off to basically half of what it was in '06. Cubbie chants will probably drown out any Sox chants, it's gonna be a nightmare just to watch on tv. I can just see the Cubs taking off in June, and the Sox dropping out of first, and virtually out of contention. But if we can somehow get out of June and still be around first place, I'm betting on us making the playoffs and beating the Cubs in the World Series!!! :gosox1: :headbang

Take a chill pill. The Sox have not even played close to what they are capable to yet. If the offense gets going, which it almost has to with some of the names in the lineup, we can get on another big streak. Heck we won 8 in a row playing great, not even our best. Maybe June will wake up the bats. KC is a joke of a team and this year's Sox have shown that they don't take anyone lightly and will play well. The cubs series will be tough, no doubt, I think the Cubs are the best team in baseball right now. but relax.

If you are worried about attendance, I suggest you contact the sox and purchase a ticket plan. If you dont then stop with the attendance threads.

Are you seriously worried about the chanting at the Cell during the interleague games, come on find something else to worry about.

Our pitching is awesome, if these guys hit just medicore we are running away with this thing. Nut up for the love of god, its not even June 1st and you are buckling over having the best record in our division with our hitting being so bad.

Good lord.

I'm actually looking forwards to June a bit. The Sox finally get a shot at a few of these struggling national league teams that the Cubs have been feasting on. And then they get to put the rookie league team from the north side back in its place.

I swear I heard these lines before. I think it was a year ago in 2007.

can we seriously stop f***ing relating the 2007 team to the 2008 team? In case you didn't notice, it's a different year and a completely different team.

Yes, its a different team, and yet....the exact same results so far...the comparisons, while seemingly unwarranted, are definitely noticeable. Offensive philosophy the problem? Aging power hitters who don't adjust? A s***ty hitting 'instructor'?

I don't know what the cause of all the offensive mediocrity is, but the struggles from 2007 that everyone kept saying "Don't worry, they'll start hitting soon enough", are painfully visible this year, with a 'completely different team'.

I just cried a little reading that... On a positive note i just met a scout at work today from the Sox and he had a world series ring. I almost showed tears of joy this time.

You must be very emotional. :crying :) I see us still in first place and have to believe we won't be this pathetic offensively forever.

2008 is a very different year if for no other reason than the pitching is about 2 full runs per game better. The starting pitching and the bullpen are WAY better. We don't have win win games 7-6 anymore.

When was the last time the Sox had a really good second half? I can't remember any. When the Sox go to the playoffs they tend to get a huge lead and stumble to the finish line. My concern is that Cleveland seems to be a second half team. If the Sox don't get a lot more game on the division, they will have a lot of work to do.

Face it, these guys aren't going to hit any better. But with the pitching, they have a chance if they can just muster enough offense.

Why do we have to only compare to 2007? I mean, wasnt the pitching dominant and the offense pretty pathetic and homerun-driven in 2005? Why is 2007 the default comparison?

Mind you, I dont want to compare this team to any previous team. While the core is the same, there are many different players on this team that will affect the outcomes of games. Players not named Andy Gonzalez, Ryan Bukvich, Andy Sisco, Scott Podsednik, Mike MacDougal, and Bret Prinz(ie. players who had way more time on The White Sox major league roster than should have).

Every year plays out different. You might see similarities every year from previous teams, but that doesnt mean the team is going to do the same thing.

Wow. This thread is crazy. We are in first place on June 1. The second placeeam is the Twins who we know is too young to take the division. The Indians are like 6 back, their bullpen still sucks, and all of a sudden they forgot how to hit. The Tigers are like 9 back. I think we are looking pretty good, especially since 3 of our power hitters are in a alump for the first two months

Actually, Dye isn't in a slump.

But, while on topic of slumps, it's not just PK and Thome, but it's Swisher, too. And even Cabrera, though hot lately, hasn't lived up to what he's supposed to be.

Yeah, I meant Swisher as the 3rd of the guys in slumps, cause he is sucking it up. Dye is close to what you would expect from him. and I know everyone dislikes Cabrera but I think by the end of the year he will produce what is expected from him.

I just wish the guys would play with the passion they will play with against the Cubs this

time.

I mean play hard and we'll kick the Royals' ass.

Hit the ball where it's pitched and we'll kick the Royals' ass.

Play like corpses and they will kick our ass.

The Royals have woken up from their horrible slump.

We are catching them at a bad time unless we go out and BEAT THEM.

Take it for granted and they will mess us up.
