No matter what is voted in I bet Jim still sends you a list of his favorite beer.

I'd rather he send me a case of his favorit beer . . .

Question: Does tv comedy include only half hour shows or would an hour long show such as freaks & geeks be eligible even though it's not a straight-forward comedy?

A lot of people might overlook that show but for a select few we know that Seth Rogen got his start dating a half man/woman.

This is going to be nearly impossible, since I never watched shows like Cheers or MASH due to my age, yet know they should be included in this sort of list. I just have no idea where to put them.

Funny thing is I'm only 25 and I grew up on those shows. My mom would watch the reruns on Fox, I believe, at night before bed when I was very little, and I would watch with her. I called it "the helicopter show" when I was 3 or 4 because of the opening credits. Those two will probably be in my top 5.

Hell, I'm 18 and I remember watching all the Cheers re-runs many-a-times. I still love that show.

As I've been working on my list I realized a similar situation. I appreciate , for example, The Simpsons and South Parks position in TV comedies, but never really liked them too much, not enough to make my top 20. I'm listing my top 20 favorites, I'm not trying to offer some critical approach.

I did a mixture. My tops were my favorites, and then I had to include some that I have to admit were revolutionary or just downright unstoppable. I've seen episodes of all that I included though.

What about troupe sketch comedy (SNL, MAD TV, Fridays, Kids in the Hall) and/or anthology comedy (Monty Python, Benny Hill, Dave Allen, etc.)??

As far as cultural significance SNL has to be way up there, even if it sucked ass for extended periods during its long history.

Since the list is funniest and not greatest comedies, I'm putting shows that made me laugh.

Also, it isn't just sitcoms, so I'm putting in shows like Conan, MST3K, and probably Monty Python.

I went with :30 sitcoms and keeping it to 20 was tough. Shows like Simpsons, Happy Days, Coach, WKRP, Jeffersons, Dick Van Dyke, Soap, did not make my Top 20.

You couldn't bring yourself to bump "That's My Mama" and "Joanie Loves Chachi," eh?
