quickman
QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) Exactly, and that's the point. While I agree a new voice is needed somewhere, what's the old saying, be careful what you wish for? I have no special affinity for Greg Walker but the next guy could be worse. Before anyone says that's not possible, there could be guys who actually regress. A hitting coach takes the blame when proven hitters with a track record go bad, and that's fair. Konerko, Thome, Swisher and a few more are all doing poorly. What about guys like Quentin and Alexei Ramirez, who had basically no major league track record but are now doing rather well? It goes both ways, it always has and it always will. Now I don't care one way or the other if Greg Walker gets launched. However, I do care about some of these veterans exhibiting the same tendancies year after year. I am convinced the blame lies there but again, if firing the hitting coach will help, great, I'm all for it. Thursday should see the beginning of a change in direction. More pure hitters, less power plodders. It looks like they will take an impact bat in the draft and it's about time. look I could care less about a hitting coach but it appears these guys do something, Jim edmonds was quoted today as giving props to his new hitting coach for his surge in hitting the last couple of games. thats what you want to hear, not that they are trying really hard over the last year and half and its just not clicking. WCSox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) On what planet has OC been a massive upgrade over Uribe? Perhaps simply "upgrade" would've been a better term. Still, it's pretty silly to argue that the Sox would've been better off with Uribe as their only option at SS. Kyyle23
Sign Bonds, watch him go to Jail. That would be awesome
quickman
To get a good laugh and maybe loosen up the team, and do the utter ridiculous, ozzie should just put 9 guys names in the hat and pick them out one at a time to create a new batting order for one game. I know it sounds nuts , and it is, but it might just loosen the damn team up. if that means thome leading off then so be it. I will go take my pills now. spiderman
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) DL Konerko, sign Bonds and risk Thome at firstbase. Gotta do something. No chance. Why not just bring up Fields and put him into the mix at DH and 1B? Yes, I realize he may struggle defensively at 1B, but at the rate the current offense is struggling, we need to take chance. klaus kinski
I dont think Konerko's hand is that bad-someone said he hit 12 of 13 out of the part in BP the other day. If it was so bad-why is he taking BP? That would hurt too. Its the pitches he cant hit that he swings at. These guys act like they've never seen a change up. Thats all they saw this weekend. I wish I knew spanish because ozzie's kid had that show on the score yesterday night and I am certain this stuff was talked about for an hour. i would love a transcript in english from that show. EvilJester99
I think KW already gave the answer to what will happen when Ozzie said if no moves happen then the line up will be very different. KW said it will be interesting to see what the line up looks like Tuesday then. So it doesn't sound like he will be doing anything...not that anyone really expected him to anyway. whitesoxmanager
10.23.05. the day we shat on ourselves. lost the real gamer of the team for a loaf that ALL OF YOU were so excited to see.....WHIFF. we now are in dire need of some left handed hitting. and somebody has got to be accountable for not making the players try to hit to the opposite field. we have 2 guys in the lineup that will run thru walls to win: AJ CQ. the rest of the bunch would rather be at the beach surfin. WHERE THE f*** DID THE TOUGHNESS OF THE TEAM GO? gamers? my ass. FIRST PLACE? who cares. i would rather see baseball played well and lose than s***ty and win. the only good news to me is that the roids are out and the wild rediculously high scoring games are a thing to the recent past. now we are left with the winning teams that get clutch hits and dont make errors with solid pitching. at least we are back to the good old days brand of baseball. LVSoxFan
He's got kind of a point though: first place is great, but considering we are back to being the Comedy Central, that ain't saying much. We're only four games above .500. And we all know that this kind of performance is going to head over a cliff eventually. Just like it did in '06, just like it did last year... Fire Greg Walker. Now. Princess Dye
What ever happened to Cintron? That guy was definitely the "when he hits em" type...and that's exactly what we could use right about now. Hell move Alexei to CF and get that guy back for 2b.

WinningUgly85
This team is screwed. I can see this all coming down right now. Ozzie tirade, O.C calling the press box. Now KW is really pissed at Ozzie and our whole team chemistry is gone along with our offense. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3422002

Princess Dye
soxmachine makes the good point today that KW didnt go all in for this season. knowingly had to pace himself. i cant fault that. Once Hunter was gone, kw probably figured the 09 offseason would be the next time he'd make a giant offer for someone (assuming he knew his other CF targets likely wouldnt sign) i'm actually fine with that. no sense in overpaying if they have something larger available next yr, with multiple contracts coming off the books. the fact that multiple young guys are overachieving just makes all of this hurt more right now. but a 2008 world series win is and was going to be a stretch any way you slice(d) it. then and now.
