It was a pretty good month for a select few hitters while the pitching was just unreal with 4 starters and 3 relievers earning nominations.

I'll go with JD to be different since his numbers are so similar to Carlos' outside of RBI's, which are a bit arbitrary since Carlos cleared the bases by the time JD batted, and the defense for #23 was pretty good last month.

As for pitcher, that's a VERY tough choice. I went with el titan de bronze because you can't vote for the ENTIRE bullpen (not just the big 3, although they were the best), plus going 3-1 in a month with our offense is an incredible feat.

I went with CQ and the Big 3 ... I was thinking Dye and Floyd, but for a bullpen with sewer expectations and performing this well have to give them the nod. CQ just deserves it and is what this team was about for a lot of games.

I can't tell you what he did in just the month of May but for the season Carlos Quentin's "clutch" splits are incredible. For as close as CQ and JD's stats are for the month of May Carlos was getting it done when it meant the most.

.360/.469/.660/1.129 in 64 PA w/ RISP

.412/.565/.706/1.271 in 23 PA w/ RISP & 2 OUT

.371/.463/.743/1.206 in 41 PA Close & Late

.361/.451/.770/1.221 in 71 PA during innings 7-9

.385/.468/.923/1.391 in 47 High Leverage PA (+ 6 homeruns)

Not really trying to put down Dye, I've just been dying to post CQ's splits. He's been at his absolute best in clutch situations.

CQ and Jose. I felt that Jose deserved this one, especially after the way he looked last year. I admit it, I thought he was done and wanted to trade him for a bag of balls to ditch his contract. He's definitely proven me wrong thus far, and has looked damn impressive.

I forgot to post. :bang

Quentin of course for hitter, he's just THE MAN.

If it weren't for Josh Hamilton, he'd be on every SportsCenter. (Okay, I won't go that far. He's not on the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets.)

As much as I have been notorious on Soxtalk for my berating and trade-wanting of Contreras in the past, he's the most obvious choice.

I hope that today's hitting continues.

If it does, 2008 is the White Sox's year.

CQ obviously although JD certainly held his own and I didn't realize their stats were so close together.

Gavin and Danks were good, but I've got to go with Contreras... WOW. He's turned it around quite nicely.

Alexei and Count. With consistent playing time, Ramirez is showing signs of being a productive and exciting player. Count is also showing signs of putting 2007 behind him.

I wish there was a choice for DeWayne Wise, though.

Yeah but the question isn't "who played pretty well for the final 2 weeks of May" it's "who was the most productive player for the entire month of May." For as well as Alexei played over the final 15 games of May his line wasn't anything amazing (.308/.327/.481/.808, really good but not crazy productive) meanwhile Quentin was single handedly winning at least 8 games for the Sox over the course of 30 days and greatly exceeding Ramirez's productivity over a much larger timespan.

All clutch situations with an OPS over 1.100 is just sick.

That being said, I'm still not changing my vote.
