BobDylan
Did you see that homer he just hit? Freddy Garcia was NOT worth that. Don't tell me about the World Series THREE years ago. Olivo is the backup catcher this team needs.

SoxFan1
This might be the worst thread in SoxTalk history, even with obvious sarcasm.

Marky Mark
When we traded Olivo I thought it was a big mistake, I thought his bat was just about ready to come around. It appeared he'd be a great catcher featuring a fantastic arm, decent power and decent speed. Then we won a world series and I forgot he was ever on the team. Hatchetman
his bat is a helluva lot faster now than it was then. wonder how that happened.

maggsmaggs
Olivo was a great backup catcher, but he does not hit well enough to start. His numbers this year are out of the ordinary, the guy never walks and has 0 plate discpline. Backup catchers have value, but Garcia won us world series and gave us Gavin Floyd. If you don't care about the WS, which still is a valid thing to point out in the deal, then think of it this way. Olivo > Floyd? Hell no. Floyd >>> Olivo. Hawkfan
I'm a huge Miguel Olivo fan, but i don't regret management's decisions. Olivo's got sick tools, but its taken him a long time to develop this far, and hes still got a ways to go to reach his potential.

WilliamTell
haha Olivo, I really liked him when he was with us, but this is the first year he's actually been somewhat productive. I'll take Garcia and signing AJ over losing him and Jeremy Reed.

iamshack
Yesterday night I was at the game, and there was a blond woman with a cute little girl with her, the girl must have been no more than 5 years old. She was wearing an authentic Royals Miguel Olivo jersey, signed by Olivo himself, along with a pink and white Royals hat, also signed by Olivo. Whenever Olivo would come to the plate, she would go crazy, dancing around, screaming his name, saying cute things beyond her age like "Hang in there, Miguel," after he struck out. It was beyond adorable. My friends and I sat there trying to figure out how this could be....how a girl that age could have a Royals authentic Olivo jersey, in that tiny little size, when he just signed with them this season. This was compounded by the fact that the woman with her, whom we assumed was her mother, was wearing a White Sox pullover. The only thing we could think of was that they must have been neighbors of Miguel's back when he lived in Chicago, or perhaps she was involved in some sort of program in which he did charity work. Either way, it was obvious that Miguel still keeps in touch with them, as he must have been sending them these signed Royals items. I must say, it was very heartwarming, and quite adorable. And to those of you who are thinking Miguel was involved with the mother, no, it wasn't like that. You could tell.

iamshack
QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) how cute was the mom? The mom was just an average looking blond. And probably in her late thirties. No one Miguel could've been involved with in that way. I really think they were probably old neighbors of his, or like I said, he had come to visit her in a school or a hospital or something...
