RockRaines
QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) I listened to all of Poreda's starts last year on radio... he was in the high 90's alot of the time. One thing that really struck me is how effective he was at throwing his fastball inside on people's hands. He broke alot of bats. He has a power fastball with alot of sink and a slider. If he adds a nice cutter and change he could stay as a starter. The straight change from a fastball/sinkerballer like that would be very effective in the majors. southsider2k5
So Poreda is to AA in a year's time? That is pretty impressive.

Let's just hope Beckham can do the same.
whitesoxfan101
I can't decide if this promotion means we think Poreda is very advanced as a pitcher, or if we think he's going to be a relief pitcher. Either way, for him to be in double a in a year is nice.
JPN366
Clayton Richard is also being promoted to Charlotte, so that means Poreda will be taking his place in the Barons rotation. The moves should become official today or tomorrow. I imagine Poreda was waiting to meet up with the Barons when they came up to North Carolina. I assume this means the end of Tomo Ohka in the Charlotte rotation, then? You've got Broadway, Egbert, Haeger and Whisler already in the rotation, with Bell having been sent to the pen. So, other than sending Ohka packing (or to the pen as well), the only alternative would be a 6 man rotation, which I doubt they will do. I don't know because Charlotte doesn't update it's roster much. There has got to be two players on the DL that are listed as active. Jeff Liefer hasn't played since May 27th, I don't know who else may be inactive. Somebody will probably be released. Probably Bell or Ohka. ChiliIrishHammock24
It would be nice to see if Poreda were to dominate, start in AAA next season, and make a September call up in 2009 with 2010 getting a roster spot.

He's been very impressive this year. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=453385 Edited June 10, 2008 by scenario

Gookie Dawkins was released from Charlotte to make room for Clayton Richard. Poreda took Richard's spot in the rotation and on the roster in B'ham. Salvador Sanchez was reinstated from the bereavement list in Winston-Salem and took Poreda's roster spot. I still think Jeff Liefer is on the DL in Charlotte as well as someone else, either Matt Anderson who hasn't picthed since June 3rd or Rob Bell. It would be so nice if they'd update the roster properly or at least respond to e-mails. Edited June 11, 2008 by JPN366
