wbicker2424
http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives...yankee_tra.html 5. A three-way trade in which the Yanks get Nick Swisher, Matt Thornton and John Danks. The White Sox get Melky Cabrera, Hideki Matsui, Ian Kennedy and Ray Durham. The Giants get Paul Konerko, Alberto Gonzalez and Shelley Duncan. WHY WOULD THE YANKEES DO THIS? They are taking a flyer that Swisher's early troubles this year are a blip. He is a switch-hitter who has shown he can handle first base well. But this is mainly about getting their hands on lefty pitching: Thornton for the pen and Danks for the rotation. The cost is large, but the Yanks really MUST find a way to get lefty pitching. WHY WOULD THE WHITE SOX DO THIS? They are a win-now team struggling on offense (yes, we heard Ozzie Guillen's tirade last week). They would have to believe that Jim Thome could play first to replace Konerko. They would add Matsui as the DH and Durham would return to his original team in the midst of a bounce-back year. Danks has been tremendous, but in Jose Contreras, Javier Vazquez, Mark Buehrle and Gavin Floyd, they have four starters going well and they hope that pitching coach Don Cooper works wonders with Kennedy or with recent re-acquisition Esteban Loaiza. Melky Cabrera solves their defensive problems in center field. Their lineup ends up looking like this: 1. Durham, 2b. 2. A.J. Pierzynski, c. 3. Carlos Quentin, lf. 4. Thome, 1b. 5. Jermaine Dye, rf. 6. Matsui, dh. 7. Joe Crede, 3b. 8. Orlando Cabrera, ss. 9. Melky Cabrera, cf. That is one of the game's best offenses. WHY WOULD THE GIANTS DO THIS? Konerko is owed $24 million beyond this year (and has a no-trade clause). He is having an off-year. The Giants can hope that he revives and they could trade him again either in July or in the offseason. But for simply absorbing that money and ridding themselves of Durham, they get to see if Gonzalez can be their shortstop of the future and to see if Duncan could be a low-cost power bat with full-time play. I found this humorous...
bmags
The first place by 6.5 games white sox give up half their team ... riight. Also what with Ray Durham? Are they familiar with Alexei Ramirez?

Lemon_44
So,if i read this right, the Giants get Konerko, Gonzales, and Duncan for Ray Durham . Heck, why don't we just give them Contreras's contract as well.
Heads22
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) So,if i read this right, the Giants get Konerko, Gonzales, and Duncan for Ray Durham . StrangeSox
Yeah, we'll just trade Danks and hope Coop can work his magic on a washed up Loiaza. What a moron.
witesoxfan
I'm bored, have no story, and have a deadline to meet...let's throw together a crazy trade scenario that fits the needs of some teams because it's fun and people like talking about trades!!
joeynach
And the whole basis for this trade (proposal) falls apart because Konerko has earned his 5 and 10 player rights and can veto any trade...hence he would never approve a trade to the freaking Giants. Well done whoever wrote this article, u really did your homework first! DOPE! http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/style_emotic.../lolhitting.gif
HuskyCaucasian
that guy is on crack if for no other reason than this... Let's trade one of the most solid pitchers we have, breaking up an AMAZING 5 man rotation, and replace him with an aging journyman or a "project" in Ian Kennedy. So we trade Nick Swisher, Matt Thornton, John Danks, and Paul Konerko for an OK DH, an OK CF, a project pictcher, and Ray Durham when we dont even NEED an second baseman. Yea, SMART trade there buddy.
Chet Lemon
In addition to the whole other raft of problems with the proposal, Thome would not be able to play 1b after both Swisher and Konerko depart.
elrockinMT
This is the thinking that keeps the Yankmees struggling to be a winner
joeynach
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) This is the thinking that keeps the Yankmees struggling to be a winner The yanks are constantly surrounded by a circus of fans and media that make, propose, or implement the dumbest impulsive baseball moves on the planet. I guess thats the nature of the NY yankees though, more fans, more expectations, more media, more DOPES!!!
lostfan
lol, virtually everything is wrong with this trade

mreye
I've heard some really bad trade proposals from callers to sports radio, but I think this takes the cake!
lostfan
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) we trade the up and coming Danks for the disaster that is Ian Kennedy. Makes perfect sense. For no reason other than NYY needs a LHP. Oh and let's give them our most consistent lefty reliever in Matt Thornton too. Gotcha. edit: someone wrote this gem: "How about you send Mariano Rivera to the White Sox for Juan Uribe. You get a better defensive shortstop than you have now, and we get another middle reliever." Y2HH
This trade article is stupid. No, it's in a realm so beyond stupid it's not even smart enough to be called stupid. Nothing more needs to be said. Edited June 10, 2008 by Y2HH
alexgtp
Moron! How about we send them Uribe for Rivera and Melky! ANd Yanks pick up their contracts!
DBAHO
It's the NY Post, so that should be an instant red flag. But it's pieces like this, that want you to see the Yankees fail. Because when they do, they think they can trade their trash for someone else's gold. Not this time.
