Milkman delivers
As little as I cared about politics, Tim Russert was the guy who introduced me to politics more than any teacher I ever had. RIP.
RibbieRubarb
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) oh do share the story of you guys meeting He was giving a speech here in Chicago and it was at the Theatre where I used to work. Since I was Managing Director of the theatre ( and he was a VIP) I made sure the green room was ready, etc...Well, he walked in with a couple people. I introduced myself and said if he needed anything let us know. He told me I didn't have to leave and invited me to sit down. We chatted briefly about politics ( this was 2006). I told him Obama was recently here speaking also. He said that Obama might be a force in 2008, he can electrify a crowd. But what I really enjoyed is he asked me if I had a son and talked a lot more about being fathers. When I hear the people on NBC talk about that same thing and how much family meant to him...I can feel that too. He was one of a kind. There was no difference between him off-screen and on. I am sad. Rex Kickass
It sucks that he passed away. He had a heart condition, by the way, an enlarged heart and had been warned repeatedly by his doctor to lose weight. He didn't. Tim Russert was one of the few TV newsmen whose craft I genuinely respected. He'll be missed.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Here is the video of that, if anyone is interested. I didn't know he was a Bills fan. Yeah, he was a huge Bills/Sabers fan, as he is from Buffalo. I think he was a season ticket holder for the Bills, as well as the Wizards and Nationals in D.C. I think he was even on the board of directors for the baseball hall of fame. His death is just awful news. He was probably, at least in my opinion, the most respected and unbiased reporter you were going to find on national television, certainly in politics. Watching Meet the Press growing up was what made politics and current events interesting to me in the first place. And now, everything I read matches what I always heard, which is that he was very devout to his family, his job, even his religion, and that he was just generally a great guy. 58 is way too young to go for anybody, but especially for somebody like Russert. RIP.
kapkomet
This is one of the few media people that I actually respected as well. The guy was straight and didn't play the games that most of them do.
HuskyCaucasian
Timothy J. Russert Highway Washington, DC – Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton along with Congressman Brian Higgins introduced a resolution today to rename a portion of U.S. Route 20a that runs near Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, after Tim Russert. The stretch of U.S. Route 20a located in Orchard Park, New York, that runs from Abbot Road to California Road, will be designated as the ‘Timothy J. Russert Highway,’ in honor of the NBC Washington Bureau Chief and moderator of Meet the Press who passed away last Friday. Russert, a native son of Buffalo, New York was an avid sports fan who was passionate about his hometown football team the Buffalo Bills. lostfan
They were showing some video clips of some of Russert's best work (some, because there's a lot) and man he would just OWN people when they tried to lie or BS their way around him. kapkomet
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) ohhh.... good point! Yea... 'cause, it's going to happen - there WILL be an NFL team in Toronto, it's just how it gets there that might be up for debate, and the Bills are a pretty likely candidate at this point, for many reasons. Not THE candidate, but a likely candidate. Sorry for the threadjack.
