greasywheels121
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Sorry, but if Tigers knee is that bad, would he really have dropped down to his knees like he just did??? I didn't get to see s***, thanks to work. But falling to the knees wouldn't compare the least bit to the torque the knee takes during a swing, etc.
IlliniKrush
I could have done without Tiger acting up after each bad shot. Like he didn't know the cameras would be on him after them, too. I mean give him credit, but I can do without the ridiculous antics.

He is the greatest of his time and the reason many people watch. Tournament w/ Tiger >>>>>>>>>> Tournament w/o Tiger But no one ever talks about how he acts like a child when he hits a bad shot. I've never understood golfers who do this either. Golf is the one sport where you have no one to blame but yourself. You would think that after playing for 30 years he would be able to restrain himself from throwing his club and yelling like an imbecile when he happens to screw up. greasywheels121
I can't think of many good athletes that don't get upset at themselves when they do something disappointing on the course/field/court. If you're going to get mad at Tiger for such, there's tons of other athletes/people you need to be disgusted with as well.
Harry Chappas
Tiger Woods needs to finish in the Top Ten of every major until 2019 to tie Jack Nicklaus for the most top ten finishes in a major in a career.

Tiger isn't throwing his club after a bad shot and blaming the grass or anything...he's doing it cause he IS blaming himself? Many times he even says..."Dammit Tiger!" He isn't inhuman and it's because of his ultra comeptitive nature that he is as good as he is. I personally don't go throwing my club around the golf course, because I don't expect to be that good....I don't play enough or practice enough to be good....but if there is something I'm good at and there is something I do right 9 out of 10 times....You're dam right I'm gonna be pissed that 1 time I f*** it up. That's how it is with him. If he hits a shot how he wants 999 out of 1000 times...than the 1 time he needs it he f***s it up...he is gonna get pissed...I don't blame him....I mean short of him teearing up a green or something...I can give a s*** if he throws his club down. In fact, I find it remarkable how he can get past a bad shot so easily. Edited June 17, 2008 by Controlled Chaos

Golfers are really responsible for their own compensation as well, which makes it a great situation, but also a ton of pressure. Think how f***ed up Paul Konerko would be if his pay depended on how well he performed every day.

The Bones
My point is how many other golfers scream and bang their clubs on the ground. I probably watch golf as much as, if not more than, anybody on this board and no other professional golfer acts as outrageously as Tiger does. However, no other golfer is as good as him either. For those of you comparing golf to football and basketball...get real. Golf is supposed to be a gentlemen's sport and you are not supposed to act like that on the course. I could somewhat understand the antics when he was young but he is now in his 30s and hoped he would have grown out of it by now. And believe it or not even Tiger loses more often than he wins so yes I do believe he should be used to defeat by now. And yes I have played golf many times before and it can be without a doubt one of the most frustrating experiences for anyone but I manage to restrain myself from acting like an child w/o cameras in my face and millions of people watching me so I would think he could be able to as well. Also, playing with the types of people who act like Tiger is even worse than having to watch it. It's hard to focus when the other guy is banging clubs around and cussing at himself. whitesoxfan101
I don't think Tiger was faking it at all. He winced and agonized in pain after several very good shots as well. And who cares if he swears after a bad shot? Do any of you not curse after you screw up? Lord knows I do. If anything, it makes him more human that he does that IMO. The Bones
If someone can answer this question I will concede the point. What professional golfer acts out more than Tiger? Be it positive with the multiple fist pumps and spiking of hats onto the ground or negative with the banging of clubs and swearing at himself? He is the Carlos Zambrano/Joba Chamberlain of golf. No other professional golfer even comes near to acting the way he does.

He is the Carlos Zambrano/Joba Chamberlain of golf. No other professional golfer even comes near to acting the way he does. I am NOT a Tiger fan, and never have been. It's not that I don't appreciate his greatness, or that I don't appreciate what he has done for the game of golf, I just have never particularly liked his demeanor on the course. The first pumping gets a bit out of hand at times. That being said, I think he is awfully well-behaved on the course, considering the amount of scrutiny he is constantly under. The man can hardly play in Majors anymore because the scrutiny is so intense. Whether it be by the cameras and the media, or the huge galleries, there are always distractions, always people watching his every move or mannerism. I don't think Tiger behaves all that much worse than anyone else. I just think he is scrutinized so much more than anyone else. However, there is something to this idea of ultra-competitive, ultra-gifted athletes being spoiled, immature babies. The stories of Michael Jordan being a douchebag behind the scenes are pretty legendary. It's just that the public never saw them because A) he was a master at manipulating his public image; and B) the press protected him 95% of the time. Tiger doesn't have that luxury as much as Michael did, but still, all in all, when they have boom mics surrounding you in the heat of battle, you're bound to blurt out something you don't want others to hear. And when every single shot is broadcasted live (as opposed to most other golfers, who might only have a few live shots broadcasted), Tiger is going to obviously be very, very exposed. maggliopipe
Tiger reportedly out for the season... BREAKING NEWS Report: Tiger Woods is done for the season, according to The Golf Channel. The website reports he has a small stress fracture in his left knee and also needs ACL repair and wants to return at full strength in 2009. southsider2k5
Wow. That makes what he did last weekend all of the more impressive.
ptatc
This makes what he did pretty amazing. The ACL is primarily responsible for rotational stability in the knee. If he has a ruptured ACL it 's got to feel like slipping on ice during his follow through. It's amazing he can be consistent with that and that's not including the pain associated with the stress fracture.

Chisoxfn
Geeze, crazy he could win playing that injured. Definately adds to his growing legend. I was a huge Tiger hater but even I've came to appreciate and cheer for him. It will be interesting to see how he recovers and just how serious these injuries are. Also, in terms of a golf season, what exactly does that mean (is that like a full year or what, I honestly have on idea other than they've only played 2 of the majors).
