Konerko injures rib cage, may hit DL

Ramirez has been strong recently so I wouldn't mind him being in center even though he's a liablility fielding at times.

Ramirez, Anderson, Owens, Loften, there are a lot of names mentioned to play center right now.

I probably wouldn't sign Loften because he's probably not going to play very often once Konerko gets back, and that means we'll either have to send Anderson or Ramirez down to the minors, or release Ozuna to keep Lofton on the roster.

I initially liked the idea of bringing up Owens but the more I looked at the schedule, we have 13 games in the next 15 days. 6 of them are at National League ball parks. I would assume Thome is going to start 4 or 5 games at first base with Swisher in center meaning there will be under 10 games to have Owens, Anderson, or Ramirez starting in center. I would prefere to have Ramirez and Anderson play in center.

Or we could have Ramirez play second base and let Anderson play in center. Getting Uribe out of the lineup is always a positive, haha.

It's doable as long as the pitching keeps being strong.

I'd let Paulie rest up for 15, and have him healthy to key this offense in the 2nd half, because if you look at his splits, he is notorious for being a 2nd half hitter.

I think BA deserves to be starting however, and I rather him get AB's than say call up Owens and have him play everyday.

And that's with Swisher at 1B and Ramirez at 2B. Don't want to see Uribe in there playing.

I'd also like to see BA in CF and Swish at 1B while Paulie is out, and to slowly work Paulie back in afterwards. Also agree that Alexei is the best option at 2B with the offense struggling.

If Anderson hits while Paulie is recovering and Thome continues hitting in the low .200s with few walks and many K's, the Sox really need to re-evaluate his future with the team. I don't think that releasing a guy to avoid a contract option is the most honorable thing to do, but his production hasn't even been close to his price tag this year. If he's still hitting like this at the end of July, the Sox would be better off upgrading defensively in CF and moving either PK or JD to DH.

From some of the articles I am reading, this seems like its gonna be a lot longer than a simple 15 day stint for Paulie, but reading through this thread it seems like most people are taking it for granted that it will only be 15 days....

Any rhyme or reason to the projections?

Usually, significant rib muscle strains keep hitters out for longer than 15 days. it just depends on the severity. It's impossible to swing a bat without pain with this injury. The muscles are very short, thick and multidirectional all factors contibuting to the length of time it takes for it to heal.

not to mention he is like a 32 year old going on 45.

I hope they shut Paulie down until after the All Star Break.

Something needs to happen, and he can play a position that will be vacated with Swish playing 1B

.259/.327/.306 .........in the minors .633 OPS

Anderson is at .250/.289/.381 a .680 OPS in the majors with sporadic playing time, and he's a better centerfielder.

Also, Owens is 17 for 27 in steals.....running on minor league pitchers and catchers.
