looking for help on how to deal with a traffic ticket, and came across this

part 1

part 2

part 3

According to part 1, the government does not have the right to prosecute people for breaking the law because law enforcement is not personally injured. I doubt the rest is worth watching.

Although after working in the DA's office last summer, I can say this: you should hire an attorney. Not because traffic attorneys know something special about the law, but because they know the prosecutors and the fine and penalty will almost always be reduced.

Disclaimer: I am not an attorney. I am in law school.

Honestly, I don't know what this guy is talking about. These are "citations" we are given when we are given a traffic ticket. This is not "litigation." This is a citation, which the government has every right to levy on you in the performance of it's police powers.

And yes, GT, you are correct. And this is where the guy in the video is correct. Traffic court IS a scam. But it's a scam built up by the judges, the prosecutors, and the attorneys. For any reasonably serious offense, it is almost always better to hire an attorney. As GT stated, not because one is required to settle the issues- rarely is any legal knowledge ever discussed when working out a traffic citation- but rather, because the prosecutor and the judge will reward a client who has hired an attorney by levying lower fines and lesser punishments. The attorneys then recognize this and contribute more to the judge's re-election campaigns. The low-level prosecutor then moves on to become a private attorney or a judge as well, and the cycle just continues on and on and on.

It's a terrible scam, and it does prop up a very low level of our legal system, and it is really unfortunate.
