Thome just rears back and swings ala Sammy Sosa and when you get older you swe what happens to each. I understand Sosa is a jag on steroids but they are very similar hitters. He's been worse than usual with the weak grounders to the right side due to having to cheat at the plate. He knows his bat speed has declined, so now he starts his swing earlier.
