NorthSideSox72
Today is Opening day for our Rookie and Short Season teams. Good chance to see some of the recent draftees, as well as some of last year's young players. Here are today's games, for the full system... Charlotte @ Richmond, 12:00pm CT, no starter announced yet Jacksonville @ B-Ham, 7:05pm CT, McCulloch (4-5, 4.07) tries to continue his recent success for the Barons Potomac @ Winston-Salem, 6:00pm CT, Long (3-8, 5.47) starts for the Warthogs The SAL All-Star game is today, at 6pm CT, in Greensboro. The only Kanny player on the team (South) is the Intimidators' closer, Henry Mabee. Johnson City @ Bristol, 6:00pm CT, no starter announced yet. Lucas Harrell is rehabbing in Bristol, so he may start. Great Falls @ Helena, 8:05pm CT, no starter yet here either. The roster is also not very filled out yet, so, hard to tell. Might be Nevin Griffith.

NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) Kevin Skogley and Lucas Harrell are starting for Great Falls and Bristol. Skogley? He's on the Kannapolis roster, according to MiLB.com. Interesting - I guess he's been demoted back to GF then.
scenario
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Skogley? He's on the Kannapolis roster, according to MiLB.com. Interesting - I guess he's been demoted back to GF then. There are a few guys who were targeted for Great Falls that got sent to Kanny for a little A-ball experience first... Skogley, Estill, Danny Jordan and probably a couple of others. Edited June 17, 2008 by scenario
NorthSideSox72
Jerry Owens left the game today in the 1st inning due to an unspecified injury while playing in CF. Charlotte currently losing 5-4 in the third inning.

scenario
Looks like Charlotte is playing a double-header today. Clayton Richard is scheduled to start the 2nd game. Box Score I'm interested in seeing how Richard pitches in the 1st inning. It's been his Achilles Heel all year. His season ERA is in the mid-2's but his 1st inning ERA is in the mid-5's. Once he gets past the 1st, he's been dealing. Edit: 1-2-3, 9-pitch 1st inning for Richard. 7 strikes and 2 balls. Very nice. scenario
David Cook doubled in his 1st at-bat of the 2nd game. Now 5-5 on the day. Game Day Edited June 17, 2008 by scenario
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) David Cook doubled in his 1st at-bat of the 2nd game. Now 5-5 on the day. Game Day So through his first 7 games, he's hitting .480 with a 1.256 OPS. Seven singles, three doubles and a triple - so he's not trying to hit for the fences either. Cripes. Very small sample size though. He obviously won't hit like that forever.
scenario
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) So through his first 7 games, he's hitting .480 with a 1.256 OPS. Yeah, but it sure is fun while it lasts. The ball has to look like a beachball to him right now. Gotta ride that streak as long as you can. He went on a real hot streak like this last year right after he got promoted to Birmingham from Winston-Salem, too. scenario
Clayton Richard perfect through 4-innings. Edit: He gives up his 1st hit in the bottom of the 5th... a single. But no more damage. End of 5 innings: Charlotte up 4-0. So far Richard has thrown 56 pitches... 40 strikes; 16 balls. Edited June 17, 2008 by scenario
Cerbaho-WG
Richard has been nothing short of sensational this year. Through 6 he's given up one hit while striking out 6 on 65 pitches. With Broadway coming back down to earth, I'd have to say that if Richard keeps up his current pace he deserves the call if a starter goes down. Charlotte wins. Richard's final line: 7 IP 3 H 1 ER 0 BB 7 SO 84 pitches, 61 strikes. 10 ground outs, 4 fly outs. Edited June 17, 2008 by Cerbaho-WG
scenario
The Charlotte game just ended. They won 5-1. Richard got nicked for a run on back-to-back doubles in the 7th before closing it out. Charlotte finishes off a 12-game road trip going 8-4 with 3 shutouts. Pretty nice! Edited June 17, 2008 by scenario
Balta1701
Danny went 2/4 with 2 doubles and 4 walks today between the 2 games. Hitting .281 over his last 9 games, with at least 1 hit in all but 1 of them.
RockRaines
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Danny went 2/4 with 2 doubles and 4 walks today between the 2 games. Hitting .281 over his last 9 games, with at least 1 hit in all but 1 of them. Thats great news for our 2B of the future. I think there is a good shot that OC walks, we get a pick and you see Danny and Alexei in the MI. Nice range and good hitting and speed with a touch of power.
