BearSox
Charlotte had the night off. Birmingham won 2-1. -Cassel with a very good outing, going 7 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4. He did not allow any runs but picked up the no decision as the Barons have virtually no offensive threat. However, their lone RBI came from Valido. Winston-Salem lost 6-1 -After being named pitcher of the week for his league, Ely did not fare as well today, going 6.2 innings, surrending 5 runs (all earned) and of the 7 hits he gave up, only 3 stayed in the park. However, he did not walk anyone and struck out 8. -No notes on the offensive front. Kannapolis did not play today. Great Falls is winning 5-4 in the 8th and are in the process of mounting a comeback against Helena. -The Great One, aka Ken Williams Jr., started in center today and is so far 1-4 with a triple and an rbi. He also has a walk and a K. -Brent Morel started at 3B tonight and is 1-4 with a triple as well. -Doug Thennis is 0-1 with a couple of walks and a couple of runs scored. -On the pitching front, it seems like only non-prospects pitched tonight. -Oh, and his greatness Kent Gerst pinch ran. Bristol won 8-5 -The either extremely young or not young at all Juan Silverio went 1-4 with a 2 run homer. -Brandon Short went 1-5. -Not much else to report on. Palehosefan
Even if Silviero is 3 years older and is 19, he's still got nice potential. Gotta love his start. Edited June 19, 2008 by Palehosefan
JPN366
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Birmingham won 2-1. -Cassel with a very good outing, going 7 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4. He did not allow any runs but picked up the no decision as the Barons have virtually no offensive threat. However, their lone RBI came from Valido. Although, the Barons game had a great ending. In the top of the 9th, Jacksonville scored the first run of the game. Both Fernando Hernandez and Carlos Subero got tossed for arguing with the homeplate umpire. Bottom 9, Schnur led off with a single (he's good at starting rallies), Nanita drew a walk, Gartrell laid down a sac bunt to move them over, Hall was intentionally walked, Valido knocked in Schnurstein, then San Pedro grounded to short, but it was mishandled, Nanita scored and the Barons won. danman31
I jumped on DLS early and I'm jumping on Eduardo Escobar early. I saw this from an article in the Great Falls Tribune a few days ago and made sure to pay attention to this kid: The scrimmage produced few offensive highlights, but one came in the top of the first when leadoff hitter Eduardo Escobar rapped an apparent single to right-center and hustled it into a double. Jesus Avila promptly sacrificed, and Johny Celis knocked in a run with a grounder to short. "That's kind of like how you draw it up," Cron said. "Escobar gets a base hit, then shows his speed to stretch it for two." He hit a HR last night and went 2-3 with a double and 2 walks tonight. He's only 19 and is a switch-hitter. Hit .291 in the DSL last year. Sounds like a prospect to me.
Ozzie Ball
Murillo Gouvea, who got the win for Bristol may be one to watch. 19 year old kid, had 56 strikeouts in 43.2 innings for one of the DSL teams last year, that could be an indication of pretty good stuff, his walk total was huge though. He struck out 4 batters in 3 shutout innings yesterday giving up a hit and a walk. Edited June 19, 2008 by Ozzie Ball

I think he's my 2008 nominee for best name in the minor league system.
scenario
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) The Great One, aka Ken Williams Jr., started in center today and is so far 1-4 with a triple and an rbi. He also has a walk and a K. In the first game, he pinch hit late in the game, drew a walk and scored a run. It was his only plate appearance. Yeah, Onarkys Paniagua probably has him beat. LOL. And any baseball player named Juicer ought to consider a name change to avoid suspicion, don't you think?
