chw42
Are you afraid your Cubs buddies are gonna scream crap in your ears for a whole week? Are you going to stop listening to sports radio because they will be constantly praising the Cubs? There's a lot at stake on a personal bases if the Sox lose the game tomorrow. But also, think of these... 1. It's on ESPN, it's nationally televised. The Sox's reputation to the nation is on the line. 2. If the Twins continue to bull doze the D'Backs, we might only be 1.5 games up going out west. 3. A loss tomorrow will either mean our offense stunk it up, our bullpen faltered, or Javier Vazquez didn't have it. The first one is not surprising, but the latter could have me worried about our rotation. 4. Detroit is creeping up on us. This next game is pretty important, I don't know if it's a must-win. But for our personal sake and our personal safety, let's pretend it is. Edited June 22, 2008 by chw42

chw42
Javy needs to pitch a great game tomorrow. Like 7 innings 1 ER 8 Ks kind of good. Our bullpen got taxed today. We need to get a good, long start tomorrow. Not many teams have hit Dempster well, maybe this is will be the start of his demise. Al Lopez's Ghost
It's just another game. It would be nice to win, but even if we do, Cub fans are still gonna be jerks. That's not gonna change. We will win or lose the division based on how we play against our division. There's a lot of games left. I'd actually say Thursday's game is more important, in the sense that Contreras must get better than he has been recently, or it's gonna be a lot harder for us the rest of the way. BobDylan
I think every game before the stretch run is rather important. I don't think the White Sox can afford to play .500 ball right now. They were sitting pretty for a second with a 6.5 game lead but let that slip away quickly. Their schedule in July is where a move has to be made. If it's not, I'd doubt the Sox to win the division or make the playoffs. The reason I say this is because neither Floyd or Danks has thrown 200 innings in their professional careers. To expect them to pitch with this same effectiveness down the stretch while needing to win games is insane. Contreras has pitched merely average the past 4 starts, and absolutely pathetic this last one. While it's not time to say Jose is cooked and back to his 2007 form, it's not encouraging. Besides, he's never put together a full season where he was stellar start to finish. Do we expect him to do it this year? They need to create a cushion that allows them to play .500 or even a little below .500 baseball in the later half of August into September. If they can't afford to put out some veteran gas can on the hill every five days to take a few punches for the team, they won't make it. Unless they start limiting the innings Broadway and the minor league pitchers toss, they probably won't be able to ask them for many innings in September, either. And just as much, the White Sox need to solve the offensive problems, and they need to solve them now. Inconsistency won't get them anywhere. If it means doing something ridiculous with the line-up, do it. Edited June 22, 2008 by BobDylan

greg775
In answer to your comments: 1. It's on ESPN, it's nationally televised. The Sox's reputation to the nation is on the line. -- Who cares? National TV ain't what it used to be. Some people will watch, some won't. 2. If the Twins continue to bull doze the D'Backs, we might only be 1.5 games up going out west. -- I don't fear the Twins at all, though they and their manager and GM deserve credit for the fact that team never sucks. 3. A loss tomorrow will either mean our offense stunk it up, our bullpen faltered, or Javier Vazquez didn't have it. The first one is not surprising, but the latter could have me worried about our rotation. -- I would agree our rotation is a concern but all fans are concerned about their own team's starting pitching. 4. Detroit is creeping up on us. -- That is my main concern. Detroit is the best team in our division. AS FAR AS WHAT IS AT STAKE IMO: -- I personally want to beat the Cubs when we play them. If we go 0-3 we have to win all three at the Cell to tie them. -- Last year didn't we go in the tank after the Cubs disposed of us? I sort of fear that. -- Pride is at stake. Some on here don't care apparently that this series is any different than one against Pitt. One win of three would at least be something. Getting swept is very embarrassing. -- We are starting to suck balls on the road. Really suck on the road. Another loss will continue that trend. MY PREDICTION: Jimmy plays 1B and commits a costly error. Oz gets crucified again. Our offense does not fare well and we lose 5-1 or 6-1 in a fairly dull game. Hope I'm wrong and Thome hits a couple bombs.

Frankensteiner
It's probably more important to us fans than the players. But I would like to think that if it's important to us fans then it should also be important to the players. I think any Sox fan who says braggin' rights aren't important is lying or just trying to rationalize our losses.

southsideirish71
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Whats a stake? A win or a loss. We need to get on track with our road record. This is the pitchers we face over the next 2 weeks. We play out west which is tough enough. We get Kershaw, who is someone we never faced, is lefty, and has a curveball. Then we get the Lee/Sabathia combo + sowers and then 4 of the Oakland starters. The next 2 weeks are tough. This team needs to get back to winning. And winning some games on the road. Dempster Lowe Stults Kershaw Back home to the Cell for Marquis Dempster Marshall Then we start to face some tough pitching Sowers Lee Sabathia Then Oakland comes in. greg775
It's not a must win chw. The season is a marathon. If we keep playing like this on the road, we're going nowhere anyway.

Only a 2.5 game lead with 88 or 89 remaining. I think the Sox almost have to win out if they really have any playoff aspirations.
elrockinMT
We want to win at least one game in the Chewing Gum Field. Hopefully next weekend the Sox do to the Cubs what they have done to us so far. Being that the game is on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball a win over the Cubs would be sweet and make a bit of this bad feeling in my mouth go away. fathom
If the Sox get swept, the Cubs will have bragging rights for exactly 4 days. After that, the Sox have their chance at redemption.
greg775
Yeah we'll have our chance at redemption if we win all 3 games. The odds of that will be slim if they sweep us. It's pretty simple greg....as of right now, the Cubs are a better team than the White Sox. Let them have their fun, there's only one time standing at the end of the World Series. I don't understand you worrying about this. You dont live in Chicago, its not like you run into those with the cubby chubby all the time. Just mention 1908 and move on. I could care less about that its the cubs, I worry more about the division getting closer. I would be just as upset if the Rockies were doing this to us. The only annoyance factor is some moronic cub fans who run their mouth at work. I keep this in the back of my memory and get my revenge when I block all those fools trying to buy tickets when the cubs tickets go on sale every year at my company. So if we lose this one game tomorrow it means that we miss the post-season? Please. Take a deep breath, calm down....you're going to make it through the next 24 hours...I promise. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to get swept by the Cubs...none of us do. A lot of other posters in this thread talk about how Cub fans talk hamburgers.....I hope most of you realize that most Cub fans have the baseball IQ of a deaf and blind pig. If you can't shut them up chances are you're either not trying very hard, or just need more material. These are the people that created insulting and racist t-shirts, that hold up giant "W" flags and posters to let the frat boys and mindless skanks aware of their victory, and how could we forget that these are the people that showered the field with trash when AJ hit a go ahead three run homerun two years ago. Remind them of Cesar Izturis's crotch grab last year, how their stadium reeks of urine, and how all of them used to worship Sammy "rum bottle" Sosa. 90% of Cub fans are classless and clueless. Congratulate them on their 100 years of success, remind them of Bartman, and give them the finger. It's far too easy. So chill. Thanks.
