I told you guys to keep an eye on Lopez. I included him on my own top 50 prospect list, because I like the numbers he put up last year and the scouting reports I read about him. If he continues this pace he could be in Kannapolis before to long.

How about the offense at Great Falls? They are blowing away the other teams in almost every offensive catogory. How about McCarthy's start? It appears that the Sox have done a good job in the last couple of drafts and the system has some solid young talent, especially in the lower minors. We will have to wait and see if they can continue it at the upper minors over the next couple of years.

The thing is so many guys at lower levels are doing well that they can't promote them all. They will have to be patient and make some guys go one level at a time, even if they deserve to be challenged.

For example, one could argue that Honel, Wing, Stumm, Francisco and Yan all deserve to be promoted to AA. An argument can be made for Wyatt Allen, Mike Spidale and Heath Phillips as well.

Great Falls has several guys that are college guys (Anderson, Nanita, Gray) or advanced HS guys (McCarthy, Bounds) that could be promoted. (Im sure I missed =one or two)

Kannapolis roster at this point seems pretty much set. None seem to be screaming for a promotion.

All of that makes for difficulty in promoting guys.

Orionny Lopez is a kid with a great breaking ball. Denny Gonzalez scouted him in the Miami area. The Sox are extremely high on him, and I think he hasn't turned 20 yet.

I'm glad Stumm is coming along ... although I'd imagine his future is in the bullpen, perhaps closer material. If I'm not mistaken, they'll need to make a 40-man roster decision on him after this season.

I too want to keep Stumm as setup man and eventually closer. Heck with starting.

Arias is just a kid, 20 and will be 21 in Sept. Was in DSL (Dominican Summer League) for us for 3 years, did ok. Was 1-12 in limited play for Arizona in Rookie ball last year. Do not let one 3-4 game that boosts limited AB average up high fool ya.

If we have one catching prospect it would be Lisk at Great Falls and I am not high on him either.

The catching prospects are not deep. Maybe Wally Rosa (W-S) and Gustavo Molina (Kanny) are right there with Lisk but none of them have stood out so far.

None are hitting particularly well, but they're all about 20, 21 so they could still develop. I don't see any blue-chippers though.

Orionny Lopez? Man that is the coolest name ever.

Also does anybody know what Stumm's velocity is still upper 90's? And did he have TJ Surgery or was it something shoulder related?

Rick Burelson, late of the Red Sox, et al, is the manager of Rokie League Billings as reds farm club. One of the local TV stations did a little segment on sports with him miked up. He was talking to his players and coaches during the game and kept praising the White Sox rookie team at Great Falls, going on about how talented they were and could really pound the ball as well as having some great pitching.

Stumm had Tommy John surgery, didn't come back from it too well, and had some more work done on his elbow. Then, last summer, he had his shoulder scoped.

So he's had two elbow procedures done and one on his shoulder. He's a big horse of a kid though, 6'2" and about 230, so maybe he's got the physical strength to use his legs more in his pitching motion. Tom Seaver was excellent at that ... one reason why he lasted so long.
