Hey, it could be worse.

We could be in 3rd or 4th place by now like a lot of the people on this board (*raises hand*) thought we'd be. But instead, we're in 1st.

We could have blown that 15 game lead to Cleveland in 2005, and felt the pain of an all time collapse while not being able to enjoy what turned out to be the 2005 postseason.

We could have a bad pitching stafff that always performs like they did this weekend, but we don't.

We could suck at home, and not have a dominant advantage in front of baseball's best fans every time we play at U.S. Cellular Field.

We could be fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates or Kansas City Royals.

and last but not least:

We could be Chicago Cubs fans. Fans of a team that hasn't won a championship in a full century, a clean 100 years. A team that will choke this October, no matter how good they look now. A team that plays in a giant urinal, dump, and s***hole of a stadium. A team whose fans are dumber than any in sports. A team that has embraced failure and losing for decades, rather than trying to fight it. The Chicago Cubs, rooting for them is like rooting for the trailer park in a tornado.

Look, this weekend sucked, and i'm not even sure if this thread belongs in PHT. I know I'm not usually the guy that is optimisic and positive, but please keep in mind, it could be worse.

I like the way you think!

June 23rd, and the Sox are in first. If someone would have told me that in March, I would have taken that in a second.

Yeah, but if you were to tell me we'd be in first by 6.5 games on June 9 and only 1.5 games up only 13 days later after losing 9 in a row on the road, I would have said by the ASB we'd be in 2nd by 2-5 games.

PS. had it not been for a fly ball that Gardy Sizemore lost in the sun In KC, they might have blown the lead in 05.

And if Graffnino doesn't boot the double play, we go to Boston tied 1-1. If A.J. isn't awarded 1st base, we might go to Anaheim down 2-0. If the Jermaine Dye 3-2 pitch in game 2 is properly called a foul ball, maybe PK never gets the chance to hit a grand slam. You need breaks sometimes.

That is a ridiculous statement. Not just cause his name is Grady not Gardy.

Give me a break. Lots of things happen. You can't point to one thing like that.

Hey in 1967 if the White Sox had not had their heads up their ass the last 6 games of the season they might have won the WS that year.

Look it up.

s*** happens. I make a lot of dumb statements, but yours is as bad as they come on this board.

Exactly. I credit Crede's walk off HR vs Cleveland as the real dagger. They closed it to 3 games and that made it 4 with I think like 7 games to play. But definitley, like you said, many things played a role in it.

Yeah, and if we didn't pick up Geoff Blum the game 3 HR might not of happened, if Clemens wouldn't of gotten hurt in game 1, etc.

It sucks but the Cubs are a good team and are very tough to beat at home. Im curious to see how the rest of the season goes. I really have no idea and wouldnt be surprised if we finished first or fourth.

Which then comes another smart comment from me- "We won't be playing Kansas City if we get to the playoffs so we better learn how to beat bad teams".

It was 1.5 games. Crede's HR made it 2.5 and the Tribe beat the Sox the next night to make 1.5 again. I believe the Sox won the division by 6 games, sweeping the tribe in the last series of the regular season to knock them out of the playoffs. I think the Tribe needed one win against the Sox to make it as the wild card. I believe that the Sox would have had to play the Yankees to start the playoffs, then.

By the way, the weekend (especially Friday which should have been a W) sucked. However, that is a very good, maybe great Cubs team right now, especially at the Urinal. I can't stomach their silly fans but I can not argue with how well they take it to teams, in particular at home. It very well could be their year and I typically ridicule that type of talk. So far seeing is believing.

If the Cubs are that special, they'll kill us again next weekend.

We shall see.

I agree they are very good, but don't forget they've not been so great on the road lately.

If they pick up Sabathia look out.

It's a marathon though. I really thought after the Rays series they might come back to Brewer, Cardinal status. We shall see.

This team will be dead and buried by the All Star Break

No.

That 05 team was just better than everyone, so no again.
