US Olympic Basketball Team

The only guy that I don't like on this team is Carmelo. It has more to do with him as a person than his play. I'm not sure how much Kidd has left, either.

Kobe Bryant

LeBron James

Dwyane Wade

Carmelo Anthony

Jason Kidd

Tayshaun Prince

Carlos Boozer

Chris Bosh

Dwight Howard

Chris Paul

Michael Redd

Deron Williams

Carmelo has been absolutely amazing in FIBA play. And as a person, Kobe is a much bigger douchebag than Carmelo.

Paul - Bryant - James - Bosh - Howard is probably the best team USA has put out sine 96, but still not comparable.

I like having the more athletic big men to cover the more versitile players of the rest of the world. This could be a very good team.

They'll still struggle when opposing teams slow the pace of the game down to a crawl, and play nothing but zone, forcing the likes of Wade to jack up 3's.

That's the only reason Michael Redd's on the team BTW.

In that case you have three damned good post scorers on the roster to collapse the middle and open up the driving lanes.

More like:

Kidd

Bryant

LeBron

'Melo

Howard

Sucks that Kidd will start despite being the distant 3rd PG on the team.

I would've been nice to have another post or two, such as Elton Brand or Amare Stoudamire but I'm guessing Stoudamire had reasoning for not playing or something. I hope Kidd doesn't play much more than garbage time because the team needs Paul and Williams to set the pace.

Stoudamire pulled out.

Only one real center on that team. And Tayshaun Prince? Really?

That is, again, going to be the downfall of the team. Can you imagine that roster with the international teams packed inside the lane ready to take a charge(flop) at any moment? Not pretty.

Rip Hamilton would have been a much better choice than Prince.

Yeah, Stoudamire pulled himself out because of the lingering health concerns on his knee. He wanted the offseason and frankly I can't say I blame him.

Boozer's argubly more of a pick and roll guy.

Bosh is basically a jump shooter in a big man's body IMHO, although his athleticism will get him some open looks.

As for my man Dwight, he just doesn't have much of an array of low post moves. He's getting better, but his job on this team should be to rebound to start the break and block as many shots as possible.

So I think that's still a weakness when you look at the overall makeup of the team.

One of the main things they should be learning is nothing but ball movement around the 3 point line to get as many open looks as possible.

Because once you do that, then teams are going to come out at you more if you can hit those shots, and that will open up the lanes inside.

I still think they should have left CP3 or Williams at home to bring another big guy, like Tyson Chandler. What is the object of having 3 PGs on one team? BTW, I like the addition of Kidd- he was on the 2000 team so it brings some more experience.

I think this team will still win the gold.

Especially with Wade on the team, 3 pgs seems like overkill. Though Kidd would be the one I would leave off. Experienced or not, he fell off too much this year.

American's say that every year about their basketball team. It's easy to go undefeated in qualifiers when you play Costa Rica and Barbados.

Let me also just say I'm dissapointed in the selections of my Serbian team. Stojakovic left off again, as well as Rakocevic and Jaric. We'll have to rely on the bigs again with Milicic and Krstic down low.

Williams is about a gajillion times better than Kidd at this point, not sure why you'd want Jason over Deron.

How does Peja get left off?

As for the U.S., i would have preferred to see Marion over Prince. Marion can (and has) play the 4 position in addition to his natural 3, can run the court, shoot the 3, rebound like a 7 footer and plays good 'D'. Also, don't laugh, but a Kyle Korver/Ray Allen/Rashard Lewis selection just for the 3 point shot would have been better than Prince. Tayshaun will be the 12th man and hardly play, so why not bring someone who can bust a zone with a 3? The 3 point shot is crucial in international play.

Does every Serbian last name end in "ic"?

Agreed, I really think Lewis would have been a decent add.
