I don't think it's that he's tipping his pitches, it's just that he isn't as good out of the stretch. It's pretty common. Floyd has had that problem too. He can't get the same release point and the same push off the rubber like he has out of the wind-up.

It's not like Javy has always had this problem, it's just come up recently. And it isn't him s***ting his pants in a big game either as this started back when the Pirates were in town, if not earlier.

I really think he is tipping his pitches. If you notice, most of the damage done against him is from the stretch, just like the one writer/scout for Pittsburgh noticed. Once DLee got that lucky single, he started getting hit again from the stretch.

He needs to find what exactly he is doing to tip his pitches, and then to make sure opposing players will stop looking for any "tips", he should make off as if he is going to throw a breaking ball but then fire a fastball underneath their chin.

I'm not gonna be Polly Parrot and profess that I know if he is or not...all I know is he either gets behind too many hitters...or goes 0-2 or 1-2 and just starts dickin' around instead of going for the kill.

That pretty much sums it up. He nibbles so much to try and go for the K instead of keeping with the strikes and going at the batters. I kinda wish Coop didn't have the pulled hammy.

Well, the Cubs did do a great job of making him work. They weren't going after close pitches and were fouling off tough pitches.

Great game to be at. I wasn't surrounded by too many annoying Cub fans. But the game itself, was great.

Bullpen - unbelievable.

JD - unreal

I've got my broom ready for tomorrow with Mark on the mound.

Getting behind in the count and going for the strike out sounds a bit like he's throwing rather than pitching. I'd love to see an outing from him where he strikes out 3 or fewer and goes 7 or more innings. Just pitch within the zone and have faith in your defenders behind you. That's why the creators of the rules of baseball allowed them to be put back there.

A sweep would be a nice response, but even 2/3 is a nice response to last weekend's embarrassment.

Man, three would be special right now, though.

To sweep them to get completely even. 3-3 is soooo much better than 2-4, it really is.

I will repeat what I said yesterday (hopefully for karma) isn't it time Thome hits 3 home runs and single handedly leads us to victory?

Today, wow.

I ran some errands when Javy came out for the fifth out of fear but watched first through fourth and seventh innings on.

I can't believe we kept them off the board after the leadoff double in ninth.

Beautiful job.

And Alexei and Quentin. Wow.

Crede's play on that smash at third was a game-saver. Excellent dive, Joe.

GREAT WIN!!!!

Let's win three.

p.s. Is Jay gonna bury the Cubs like he did us after EACH GAME last weekend?

We NEED to sweep this team. Lose tonight and this series was a failure. How many times have we taken the first two games of a series against these guys only to take a dump on ourselves the third game? I'm sick of that s***. They've swept us twice the last two years. It's time to repay them. Forget that 2/3 s***.

I believe they will. That sweep at Wrigley was a good slap in the face.

A sidenote: Is Ozzie coming out to talk to pitchers because of Cooper's injury? Or is he just taking more charge?

I say do it in fashion. Beat them 13-0 or something crazy like that.

Its because of Coops injury. Hawk and DJ mentioned on Friday that Ozzie got permission to make the pitching coach visits

I don't agree with that at all. A sweep would certainly be nice, but a team's goal should always be to win a series. They've already done that have atoned for last weekend's embarrassment. The Sox need to focus on the big picture, not sweeping the Cubs to fulfill some retarded "bragging rights" claim. The Sox will have those rights until the North Side Chokes win a championship.

Are you kidding me? Last I checked all games count the same. At the end of the season, teams are judged by how many games they've won and lost, not how many regular season series they've won and lost. Each team's goal should be to win every game. Obviously that won't happen but we can't be satisfied just because we won the first two (and this works for every team against every opponent).

So, despite the fact that it's almost impossible to win every single game, a team shouldn't be satisfied because they won 2/3? That doesn't make any sense to me. A team that wins 2/3 of their games is a lock for the playoffs with 107 wins. Of course you want to win every game that you can, but it's a lot more practical to focus on winning each series. That's the strategy that the Sox employed in 2005 and it seemed to work pretty well for them.

My point was that people are letting their hatred of the Cubs cloud their minds. A win tonight would be valuable in the sense that it'd give the Sox a chance to go up an extra game on the Twins. "Payback" for last weekend's sweep at Wrigley is nothing more than a bonus. The Sox need to worry about the Twins, Indians, Tigers, and Royals. The Cubs are irrelevant.

No, what I meant was a team's mindset should be to win every game regardless of what happened earlier in the series. And as I've said, it obviously won't happen every time out.

But you seemed to be suggesting that a loss today wouldn't be so bad because we've already taken the first 2 games. I disagree because every loss is equally bad and every win is equally good.

In one of the 2005 World Series DVDs, one of the players said that their goal was to go out and win the first two games of each series. That was their focus throughout the regular season. Apparently that strategy works pretty well.

Of course. Because you can't sweep if you don't win the first two, and winning the first two guarantees a winning series. That doesn't mean you relax and look past the third game to the first game of the next series. When you win the first two, you focus on the sweep.

BTW, winning two games does not atone for losing four.

Of course you TRY to win that third game, but you don't see it as a "must-win" or anything ridiculous like people are suggesting in this thread.

People here need to stop worrying about the Cubs. They're not a division rival, and they're not even in the same f'n league.

LOL, whatever. If the Sox had just taken the first two against the Dodgers, nobody would be yelling and screaming that the Sox HAVE to win the third game tonight.

Naw,I have been worried about the Cubs because I have to hear Cubs fans mouths everyday. They have forced me to make more of this series than it is.
