Tesla Motors

Well, web 2.0 is a new way at looking at how the web can function. Could Tesla Motors be auto manufacturer 2.0?

This company is a new car designer / developer founded in 2003 and based out of Silicon Valley. Their earlier results have been very impressive. Their first car is a $100,000 all electric roadster. It gets the equivalent of 256mpg, but can currently only go 220 miles on a charge.

In the next 5 years, they are looking to roll out a $60,000 sedan to compete with the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 and then use those profits to mass production sub-$30,000 sedan.

And now, there is a rumor that Tesla has inked a deal with Daimler to supply it with lithium-ion batteries for upcoming electric cars. Daimler is apparently looking to ditch gas by 2015.

Keep an eye on these guys. I wish i could invest in them.

Yes, its Tesla, as in Nikola Tesla, one of the true geniuses of the 20th centurty. Screw Thomas Edison, this guy was responsible for some of the greatest inventions and innovations of our time.

Electricity production still causes pollution.

Nuclear waste.

That's assuming you only listen to John McCain, and not to all the people who are out there saying that concentrated solar/solar thermal electricity can work if we put the money in to it to build the plants and delivery systems.

Or a distributed solar system. Or a combination of those things, wind, hydro and geo.

I'd love to solve the fuel issues with solar power, but solar doesn't create enough electricity on its own. Most times, it's nuclear power that's used.

Not really true (about not creating enough electricity). The technology is now approaching a level where its not just a novelty - its a viable solution.

correct. It's just a matter of driving down the costs to build and install.

The new trend is to rent / lease solar from a company. They come out and install the solar panel then charge you base don your power use. Kind of like a electric company. It's a much cheaper instal than a ownership model.

My university is actually doing just that, they're currently installing the largest set of solar panels in Pasadena on top of one of their parking garages, hoping to pull about 10% of their total electric usage from solar gathered on top of their own buildings within a few years, and the solar power will cost them less per watt than what they were getting from the city fossil fuel grid.

It was probably because of the ESP and physic readings, but I'll bet 90% of the country has no idea who the guy really was, or the effect he has had on 21st century life, even to this point.
