Sox It To Em
WCIU again. Argh. Not to be pessimistic but I'd be happy with a split this series. Oakland's pitching is damn good and they always give us fits.

Oakland's pitching is damn good and they always give us fits. God I hate not being able to watch games b/c of stupid WCIU. Fortunately I will be at Summerfest tonight so won't be able to watch it anyway. GO SOX!

daa84
duchscherer has given up over 2 ER in a start just once...and that outing he gave up 3...on the brightside he has just an average GB:FB ratio and his BABIP has to be ridiculously low with only 59 Hits in 85 innings with just 55 strikeouts...so maybe hes due for a good knocking around

fathom
Possible good news for Sunday, as Harden has a "dead arm". Given his history, there's a decent chance he'll be scratched from the start.
daa84
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Possible good news for Sunday, as Harden has a "dead arm". Given his history, there's a decent chance he'll be scratched from the start. that is good news...i remember we faced harden when he first came up and was like 4-0 with a minuscule ERA, after throwing like 15 perfect innings straight in the minors or something crazy...a sunday afternoon game and loaiza outdueled him for hardens first loss iirc
daa84
from espn....i dont care if javy throws this guy hangers ...as long as he keeps away from the fastball and in the strike zone 2. Cust's strange numbers Hitters who strike out a lot tend to chase bad pitches, often breaking balls. Jack Cust is the exception. He leads the AL in strikeouts, yet has chased the lowest percentage of breaking pitches in the majors. This is just one of the statistical oddities associated with the Oakland slugger: • His 68 percent strikeout rate on at-bats ending on curveballs and sliders leads the AL. • Cust has missed on 43 percent of swung-on breaking pitches in the strike zone, most in the majors. His miss percentage against lefties is off the charts. He's missed on 72 percent of swings on breaking pitches from left-handers, far above the 29 percent league average. • Despite these negative trends, Cust has the lowest chase percentage against breaking balls in the league. His 11 percent chase rate is less than half the 28 percent league average. Cust crushes fastballs. He's slugged .648 on fastballs since 2007. Interestingly, he's gone from being a high fastball hitter last season to preferring the hard stuff down around the knees this year: Cust SLG vs. fastballs Location 2007 2008 Middle/up .822 .448 Down .273 1.021 White Sox starter Javier Vazquez could give Cust fits on Thursday. Vazquez has thrown curves or sliders on 31 percent of his pitches this season, so Cust is sure to see plenty of breaking stuff.
whitesoxbrian
Pitching matchup looks to be against us and then some. Hopefully Javy can get back to normal. Let's beat these a**holes!!
maggsmaggs
This series is seriously tilted in our favor. Pitching is about equal, but because we are at home and a team that hits homeruns, we have a BIG advantage. i think 3/4 is what we should get from this weekend. if this was in Oakland, I would feel the exact opposite with them having the big advantage being a more gap to gap hitting team. PS over/under for how many hits this weekend from Emil Brown. I say 6 is the bar. Edited July 3, 2008 by maggsmaggs

Paint it Black
Javy career wise has had bad June's. Lets hope it's behind him. Think about it, if we beat Duchscherer tonight we would have beat Cliff Lee, Sabathia, and Duchscherer all in a row. Amazing right there.

Well, technically, we really didn't beat either Lee or Sabathia.

Balta1701
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Well, technically, we really didn't beat either Lee or Sabathia. At worst our pitchers and offense held them to a draw and our bullpen beat theirs or had a draw with it.
BearSox
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) I saw it. Even with it there, we still beat them. Well, in a fifty years when some random guy is for some reason looking back at the box scores of those two games, it isn't going to say we beat either Lee or Sabathia, but rather Borowski and Kobayashi. Look at some of the games from last year when our pen blew so many games. I remember too many times when Danks, Javy, or Buehrle would have a great start, and then have the bullpen blow it in the last two innings. Did the opposing team beat the starter or pen? Anyway, this is a stupid argument. Lets send Douche...erer back to the pen. Edited July 3, 2008 by BearSox
