The Critic
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 06:00 AM) I still don't get why Wrigley? You can get so many more people in Soldier Field instead or if they wanted to get nuts they should try the race track here in Joliet. Two reasons off the top of my head: 1. John McDonough and his long history with the Cubs. This connection had to grease the skids towards getting it done. and 2. Whether or not Sox fans buy into it, Wrigley is looked at very romantically by people outside of Chicago. When outsiders think of Chicago baseball, they think of Wrigley Field and the Cubs. The Cubs are more popular than the Bears on a national scale. So for television purposes, Wrigley is a better story and will draw more curiosity viewers than Soldier would. It's Wrigley Field because more people will watch on television just because of it being wrigley field.
EvilJester99
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242732&lid...s=topStory_main The Calgary Flames have announced they have signed the power forward to a one-year contract. "Todd is a proven scorer with the ability to play both wings," said Flames GM Darryl Sutter in a statement. "He expressed to us that he wanted to play in Canada and that desire along with signing him to a one year deal was important to our philosophy. He wanted to play on a good team and it fit our money. Additionally, our captain, Jarome Iginla, was a strong supporter of Todd and wanted him on our team." Bertuzzi signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks last year, but was recently bought out by the team - once again making him an unrestricted free agent. The native of Sudbury, Ontario played in just 68 games for the Ducks last season, missing time with a concussion early in the season. Bertuzzi marked 14 goals and 26 assists last season, while also amassing 97 penalty minutes. Bertuzzi's best season occured in 2002-03, when he scored 46 goals, 51 assists and was named to the First NHL All-Star team. Bertuzzi's career took a downward turn in 2004, when he was suspended indefinitely by the league for deliberately injurying the Avalanche's Steve Moore. In June 2006, Bertuzzi was traded to the Florida Panthers in a blockbuster package that brought Roberto Luongo back to Vancouver and was engineered by then-Panther GM, and current Flames head coach, Mike Keenan. However, a herniated disk in his back limited Bertuzzi to just seven games with the Panthers and he was eventually traded to the Detroit Red Wings, where he played just eight more games. Metz
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,2482232.story Corey Crawford remains the Blackhawks' goaltender of the future. With last week's signing of free agent Cristobal Huet, the question is how distant in the future? "When I saw [the Huet signing] on the TV, obviously I was wondering what was going on," Crawford said Monday following the first day of Prospects Camp at the Edge in Bensenville. "A lot of things go through your mind, like, 'What's happening? Do they have confidence in me?' "Teams do that all the time and you just have to learn to deal with it and keep playing. I can't control that stuff. It's just a matter of doing what I can do." Crawford, 23, has spent the bulk of the last three seasons playing in the American Hockey League, but he played well in five games with the Hawks, including a shutout of the Anaheim Ducks. General manager Dale Tallon has often said Crawford is the team's future in goal, but on July 1, Tallon signed Huet to a four-year, $22.4 million contract and said he would pair with veteran Nikolai Khabibulin. "Corey's still the guy; he's still going to be our future," Tallon said. "He and [free-agent signee] Antti Niemi are going to battle for that position. We just wanted to be more consistent and upgrade our goaltending, and that's what we did." Tallon added that he isn't shopping Khabibulin in a trade. "I haven't talked about Khabibulin to anybody," he said. "I'm happy with our goaltending." New guy The Hawks added to their defensive mix by signing hard-nosed free agent Matt Walker to a one-year deal. Walker, 28, played in 43 games with the Blues last season and had a goal, an assist and 61 penalty minutes. New deal The Hawks have entered into a corporate partnership with the Chicago Board Options Exchange. Coach Denis Savard and legendary Hawks Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Tony Esposito will visit the CBOE trading floor at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and will ring the Opening Bell. Recovery news Tallon said winger Martin Havlat's recovery from shoulder surgery is going well. "He's really ahead of schedule," Tallon said. whitesoxbrian
Campbell press conference was just broke into my CSN. He said everything you've heard already: -Likes Chicago. -Didn't like the outdoor game until he scored, then he loved it. -FA's now want to come here. -Mikita/Hull night was amazing- fans were "hanging on the glass". -Likes the fact that he'll be apart of this organization for 8 years. -Scared Duncs might be faster then him, skating-wise. Loves the idea of possibly playing beside him. He'll be on CTL at 5:30 in studio and will be 1-on-1 with Josh Mora on SportsNite which starts at 10 CT. The Bills had just as good of a shot of making the playoffs last year as the Bears do this year. But, New Years Day is a Thursday. Last year, it was a Tuesday, so the first weekend in January was 3+ days if Buffalo would have needed the field. Big difference.

EvilJester99
Took this from the blues forum. Apparently was on XM Home Ice. Let me say if this is true its a terrible deal for the Hawks. We would be losing Havlat with Habby for a 2nd and 7th?? Appearently we have no need for offense anymore eh? Either that or DT has something up his sleeve because it would free up some pretty good cash. "The Blues are rumored to be interested in McCabe, Pressing, and the Blues maybe involved in a 3 team trade with Chicago and LA. Chicago is over the salary cap and LA is 14-16 million under the Salary floor. Which means they need to add 14 million in salary before the season begins. In a scenerio they laid out tonight on Powerplay: LA would receive Khabibulan and Mckee Chicago would receive StL 2009 2nd round pick, LA 2009 7th round pick St. Louis would receive M Havlat (6mil 2008/09) and Tom Pressing" http://forums.stlblues.com/index.php?showtopic=5753
Chisoxfn
It could make sense if the Hawks have someone else out there that they'd like to acquire via trade to fill the offensive void. Afterall, they'd be clearing a lot of caproom and still have some role-players which are expendable that they could package in a deal for a good offensive player. EvilJester99
We see how "soundly" Tallon has dealt with the Habby thing from the Huet signing....sheesh. whitesoxbrian
Kovalchuk to Vancouver for the twins?? Unconfirmed reports suggest that Russian Star Winger Ilya Kovalchuk may be heading to Vancouver. The report suggests that Atlanta GM Don Waddell is in close contact with Mike Gillis, and since both teams were unsuccessful in the signing of UFA in the past week, they are negotiating a swap with the Sedin twins going the other way. http://nhlpa.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/sedins-for-kovalchuk/ I think if it's made, it'd be a good trade for both. The Sedin Twins, combined, had about 45 goals and 105 assists last year. If I was Atlanta, I'd be concerned though about where my goals would come from. Steve9347
The Sedin twins are gay. I'd love if Vancouver would trade just one of them so they could cry all night. How lame. As for the rumored deal with the Blues/Kings... I don't know how far-fetched it really is... we'd clear a ton of space and could legitimated re-sign Williams and add an offensive baller. Question is, who's available at this point?

I can't believe everyone wants to keep Havlat that bad. If you ship them both off for picks, more power to Tallon. It clears your cap space for the next 2 years. whitesoxbrian
Just call him Captain Toews When it comes to worst-kept secrets within the Blackhawks, this one's right up there with them being interested in Brian Campbell before he became a free agent and the NHL's Outdoor Classic coming Jan. 1 to Wrigley Field. Jonathan Toews is going to be the next captain of the Hawks, with the 20-year-old center likely wearing the "C" as soon as opening night. Hawks coach Denis Savard all but confirmed Toews' captaincy Thursday. "It's a natural fit," Savard said at rookie camp at the Edge in Bensenville. "Personally, when I sit down with the staff and my coaches, I know that I've got my mind made up. I don't care how young you are. He's that type of person that is going to be a great captain for us. But we'll see before I make a final decision." Unlike a few year ago, there is no shortage of leaders in the Hawks' dressing room now. In addition to Toews, there's Duncan Keith, Patrick Shark, Brent Seabrook, Brent Sopel, Adam Burish and the newly signed Brian Campbell. "In talking to people that have played with Brian, he's a pretty strong guy in the room," Savard said. "Adding one more leader in your room makes it fun." The Hawks didn't have a captain last season with it obvious their intention of holding the job for Toews. The last team captains were Adrian Aucoin and Martin Lapointe, who split the duties in 2006-07. dailyherald.com

EvilJester99
Seen this from EK....I hope this isn't true. Dealing Seabs would be a huge mistake unless you got a big haul in return. Updated 1:01 Ted Nolan FIRED. Sens dealing with CHI? Sundin? Tampa Trading? July 14, 2008, 12:27 PM ET [372 Comments] What an amazing time was had by all yesterday in Ocean City. So relaxing down there...thanks for all the notes and recommendations. So far, today is looking really interesting. Once again the notion that the Senators are shopping for D help is stirring up rumours of the unthinkable...Could Ottawa and TORONTO be talking? Only in this weird state of Leaf rebuilding could such a deal be even discussed in church vestibules, however there is word the Sens are still very interested in Kubina today. They had a strong interest in McCabe as well, but that possibility has faded completely I am told. UPDATE 1:01:However another source is telling me that the Sens and Hawks are close on a deal Meanwhile, the Sundin situation is getting more and more complex with sources telling me that Montreal stills has the inner track but ANOTHER team that we have yet to talk about may indeed be getting into the game today or tomorrow. Tampa is still in discussions with Nashville and Chicago I am hearing regarding a d-man. One source said the Lightning are trying to figure a package for Seabrook. Be back shortly... EvilJester99
Alright, so after digging through Williams-Gate, here's whats going on. Chicago and Ottawa are in heated discussions. Seabrook is not one of the names mentioned to me, Sorry Lee. What I am hearing however, is that Skille and Barker would be comming back to ottawa in the package. This is snowballing VERY quickly and I hear that the kings are VERY involved. I've been told to not be suprised to see Vermette, Neil and Andrej moved, in a deal that could swing 8-10 players between the 3 teams. I heard of something big on Friday, this might be it? http://the-sens-outsider.blogspot.com/
