Sometimes it isnt lack of originality on the parents part as much as it is honoring other family members, carrying on a first name in the family, etc.

Besides, i have seen some truly horrid "original" names. Im glad my parents didnt mess around and start pasting letters together or combining their own first names.

I would bet my life that not one person on this site knows anyone that has the same name as me, spelling included.

Isnt DrunkBomber of irish/gaelic descent?

;)

Parents just had no creativity back when I got named a Jim. Truth to tell though, I'm a Jim down to my core, so I don't mind.

To make up for my parents lack of creativity, I've saddled both of my kids with outlandishly novel names and they hate me for it.

Some of you may be interested in browsing this website. http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi

You're not cool unless your name is in the 100's.

That website is pretty cool. I've been having a lot of fun with it. My name was 72nd in 1988 but has since shot up to 40 in 2007. Interesting... I guess parents are starting to realize if they want a badass for a son, they should name him "Evan."

I'm the 3rd. My dad, grandfather and I have the same first, middle name and of course last name. My dad has always been very proud of our name especially after my grandfather passed. When I was younger he'd ask me if I was gonna pass the name along to my son and I'd always say of course. When I got older I decided I would want my son to have his own name and his own identity. Luckily, I don't have any kids. It would kill my Dad if I didn't pass the name along.

My name is old fashioned, as I figured.

Kenneth was in the Top 20 1924 through 1964 (I didn't check every year in between, though). In 1985, when I was born, it had dropped to 47. Now it's at the 135th position.

How the hell can Oscar, Cody, COLTON, or Liam be more popular?

Also, here's a George Carlin bit on names. Sorry Kyle haha.

I'm Alex. I know Heads is one of the other Alex's, but I don't know who the third is.

no your name is Felix; sorry if Alex is on the birthcard, your name is Felix.

Blake fits me...or wite. Blake is spelled right - and so is wite, for that matter - but it's different, its not common, it's easy to spell, and goddammit, if it's not sexy, it's pretty damn good looking.

Close.

My daughter is Ceili, pronounced kay-lee, so phonetically she has one of the disgustingly popular current names, but se got stuck with the Irish spelling. It means "dance." She gets called all sorts of mispronounciations, like "Seelee", "Cecil", etc.

The boy is Cavan, which is the dirt farm county in Ireland my family got kicked out of 130 years ago. It's Irish for "handsome". Everybody thinks his ame is "Kevin" and we all just have a speech impediment.
