My guess is this: "not bloody likely"

Seriously, it's really hot right now, but in 2 years, they would be repealing really popular things.

Exactly. There is a reason people, with the exception of the far right, are not in favor of scrapping Medicare or social security... they are popular and liked. They just need to be cleaned up and modernized.

What the GOP needs to do is come up with a VERY solid and robust alternative to those options and maybe... just MAYBE you can make massive changes. But it has to be a REAL solid and well documented and well supported plan.

The sad thing is...so many of the key ideas were GOP ideas, it's going to be hard for them to find things that they can do otherwise. Individual mandates (GWB1, Romney used them), for exmaple.

McCain:

“There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year,” McCain said during an interview Monday on an Arizona radio affiliate. “They have poisoned the well in what they’ve done and how they’ve done it.”

Harry Reid's response:

“For someone who campaigned on ‘Country First’ and claims to take great pride in bipartisanship, it’s absolutely bizarre for Senator McCain to tell the American people he is going to take his ball and go home until the next election. He must be living in some parallel universe because the fact is, with very few exceptions, we’ve gotten very little cooperation from Senate Republicans in recent years.

“At a time when our economy is suffering and we’re fighting two wars, the American people need Senator McCain and his fellow Republicans to start working with us to confront the challenges facing our country—not reiterating their constant opposition to helping working families when they need it most.”

So, if the Republicans get the Congress and the WH back in 2012, do they just repeal the whole damn thing before most of the provisions have even gone into effect?

They wont get Congress or the WH if they run on repealing the parts of the bill concerning pre-existing conditions or the age limits.

49% say health reform a 'good thing'

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34887.html

Although I did see a CBS News poll saying around 47% opposed the bill while 38% supported it a couple of days ago.

Either way at this point it doesn't seem to be the end of the world for the Democrats. It's not like Bill Clinton did good in his first midterms, and they didn't pass anything.

And if, hypothetically, they were to succeed and repeal everything except those incredibly popular provisions...in 2 years, we woulnd't have any insurance companies left

They can run on Dems suxor at the economies. Doesn't matter how they get in, just what happens if they do.

The Senate is not going to flip. There is no way the GOP is going to get 10 pickups and the Democrats 0. I could see a 5-1 roll.

The house is more in flux. But I still think a 20 seat loss is more likely than a 40 seat one, and I think Speaker Pelosi will keep her chair.

Frankly, I have no idea how things are going to play this fall, especially after actually passing the damn thing.

That's why I said 2012. Even if they got they won't be able to override Obama's veto.
