bmags
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) fake naivety on my part. Most people have literally no understanding of Marxism, communism, socialism, nazism, Stalinism, 20/19/18/17th etc century history, capitalism/ modern economics or most other crap politicians emotionally play games with. "More czars than the USSR!" I recently had someone try to argue to me that the October Revolution put Marx into power with a socialist system first and then Lenin came along a while latter to install communism (socialism->communism slippery slope). well, I mean, in a juvenile way, very juvenile, he's closer to right than most idiots. The menschaviks who came to power in the Feb. revolution were closer to Marxists, then the bolsheviks came to power in october, who were just bats*** crazy. bmags
Yeah, he's still an idiot but I respect the fact that in his incoherent, false argument there was the implication that there were two revolutions in Russia, he just got every part of it wrong. Rex Kickass
While you weren't looking, Pennsylvania decided to argue instead of passing a budget. It's been months without one. As a result? The City of Philadelphia's free libraries will completely shut down on October 2 for lack of funds.

chunk23
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Oh, I wouldn't say that. The left wing fringe is just as loud and effective. but anyways, check this out I would disagree with your assertion. The right wing fringe is getting hours of televised publicity constantly, in the form of teabaggers and town hall disruptors. Although it isn't all sympathetic, it certainly creates the impression that there is a sizable population doing this, even though it is most certainly fringe elements. Look at the some of the things that they have manage to win in the past few weeks, such as removing end of life care, ending the public option (most likely), denying health-care to illegal immigrants (how they plan on doing this without a national ID program, I don't know), Van Jones resigning. Now compare that to the massive world wide Iraq protests, how much coverage they got, and what impact they had. bmags
Gee anyone think the reason conservatives on here don't want to admit how much better their fringe is at defining the dialogue and political agenda of this country, is because it would imply that the liberals don't dominate the media of this country? lostfan
Ok so first off Genius Girl's swastika is backwards, when it's facing to the left it's one of the sacred Hindu symbols. I had to explain to someone a couple of weeks how Hitler is so not the kind of socialist they think Obama is that he actually was at war with them but it was like talking to my dick so I gave up. Rex Kickass
Glenn Beck is the hottest thing on Fox News. Too bad they aren't making much money off it anymore. According to Colorofchange.org, the organization that led the Beck boycott - every one of the 62 major advertisers that were buying space on Glenn Beck have pulled their ads. http://www.opednews.com/populum/diarypage.php?did=14262 Net loss to Fox? For all the whining about the "liberal media" conservatives have an awful lot of influence over it don't they? What influence. They get shown on TV, and then portrayed as wakkos. That is exactly the worst possible thing for them. Even if they don't they are immediately proceded by someone telling the audience why what they saw was just wrong. It's not like the people they are trying to talk to actually watch anything but Fox on TV, and they all post on places like freerepublic, and listen to talk radio. In these outlets they do the exact same thing for all other sources and they dismiss everyone else as whackos too. Then they can keep playing the same card and round and round we go, don't you see how this works? They don't even need the "MSM." They have their alliances. Even negative attention is favorable because sometimes it makes them look like they are bigger than they actually are. However, the "MSM" meme is incredibly convenient because whenever there is a fact they don't like they can just go after the source (liberal media establishment) and it's automatically discredited whether the fact was substantive or not. This happens at least once a week I'd say. Edited September 14, 2009 by lostfan

The "public option" is being portrayed as pretty far left by the media. The window in this country is shifted several degrees to the right of most others.
