Balta1701
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Ok, this is one time I agree with you for posting some lunatic bulls*** answer from Glenn Beck. He just says s*** to get attention. He's nothing more then a Republican (hmmmmm...) Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert on crack. Seriously, this is offensive to Stewart and Colbert. If you actually pay attention to what they do...they hold the media and the politicians under the microscope as intelligently, or usually more intelligently, than anyone else out tehre. kapkomet
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) Is there any Republican media personality that kap won't compare Stewart to? That's reserved for Glenn Beck. I've never liked him. Ever. He's being a non-sensical dick that will say anything to get coverage right now. He needs to go back to rehab, because he's either drunk off his ass again or he's on crack. Whatever it is, he needs to dry up so he can maybe have a rational thought now and again. Besides, Stewart and Colbert are just too intelligent. I mean, my God, the infinite amount of important knowledge that beams from the TV screen when they are on. I bet you can see IQ meters on people rising because they are so god-damned good at manipulating their comedy to left wing people - so in that sense, they are absolutely INTELLIGENT! Even moreso then the attention whore Beck.
bmags
why do we bother talking to kap, again? Hey kap, do me a favor. Go watch when fox news tried to do a conservatives version of the daily show, it's called the half hour news hour or something. You can tell how funny it is by the title. Then tell us how easy it is to make satire not only funny, but politically biting. Because all they could come up with was call barack obama "barack hussein obama" for half an hour. Get it? See cause his middle name is Hussein! I understand you think you are trying to add balance by everytime the right crazies do something you try and draw some crazy lines to the left's doing the same thing. But this is the democrat thread, so just keep your baseless analogies to your self.

Balta1701
The Republicans anti-ACORN funding bill was written in such a vague way that it prevented the government from doing business with anyone charged with any sort of fraud. This of course, includes just about every big company out there. Including the entire defense industry. And the entire energy industry. And the entire health care industry. Basically, the Congress just voted to de-fund Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop-Grumman, GE, Halliburton, etc. Yay!
lostfan
I would like to propose a truce. We left-leaners will pretend to give a s*** about ACORN. The right-leaners will pretend to give a s*** about the DoJ firings. Or, alternatively, we will all STFU. Either way is better.

NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) The Massachusetts senate today joined the Mass. House in giving governor Patrick the ability to appoint a temporary replacement for Senator Kennedy. The Democrats could be back to 60 Senators tomorrow. And as much as I am glad to see a replacement done quickly, I despise the way it was done. The Mass Legislature basically did it one way for a Republican a few years ago, and then another way for a Democrat now. They should really put on a Constitutional amendment for their state that requires a big majority, pick a way to do it, and stick with that. HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) He just says s*** to get attention. To back that up: Glenn Beck Was For TARP Before He Was Against It Last Fall: "In normal times, under normal circumstances, if you tune in to me, you know me as somebody who would tell the federal government exactly where to take their bailout plans and shove it right up their you-know-what. But these are anything but normal times. I thought about it an awful lot this weekend, and while it takes me -- it takes everything in me to say this, I think the bailout is the right thing do. The 'Real Story' is: The $700 billion that you're hearing about now is not only, I believe, necessary, it is also not nearly enough, and all of the weasels in Washington know it." Yesterday: "[Obama] will say that Bush started us down the path toward socialism, and he'd be right by that. Bush started the crazy spending. He would be right again. Bush started the bailouts. Yes, he did -- hated him for it." Its amazing what going from CNN to Fox News will do to a guy...

They should really put on a Constitutional amendment for their state that requires a big majority, pick a way to do it, and stick with that. While it was obviously done in a partisan way, I'm going to counter you here and say that the system itself was improved. Yeah, they took away from Romney the right to appoint a permanent successor, but appointing a permanent successor through the governorship is a terrible way to do it (see: New York, Colorado, Illinois). Yeah, they gave Patrick the right to appoint a temporary successor, but leaving the seat empty for 6 months while you organize a special election is a terrible idea (see: Minnesota). There's a few tweaks they could still do (i.e. require that the candidate is chosen from a list of names selected by a committee from the same party as the deceased/resigned Senator, so that you can't just have the governor find the next Roland Burris and nominate him so that he'll embarrass the other party). But other than that, they've gotten it closer to correct at each step.
