Rex Kickass
AFL-CIO drops Blanche Lincoln like a hot potato now that she's being primaried by Ark Lt. Gov Bill Halter. They've committed up to 3 million dollars in independent expenditures to support Bill Halter.
Soxy
My dad just filled out an application to run for Lt. Gov. I'm am not sure where he found this. On an unrelated note, he really needs to find a new job to keep him from hijinks like this (and from constantly calling me to tell me of said hijinks). bmags
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) And ACORN has done a lot of good for the working poor in urban areas, no matter what anyone else has said. ACORN also works with more than black people, and is not a substitute for the nword!

NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Senator Jon Kyl and Senator Jim Bunning (Both GOP, from AZ and KY respectively) stopped unanimous consent to extend unemployment benefits (which expire at the end of the week) last night. Apparently, according to CQ, Kyl is holding unemployment extensions hostage for a guaranteed fix on the estate tax. GOP leadership promises to get it done, so they convince Kyl and the rest of the party to vote yes. They bring it up to vote again, today, and... Bunning says no again. I got registered to vote thru ACORN originally. And yes, only one time. I was actually pretty bewildered at all the stories people started making up in '08, everything since then is basically completely manufactured. But the things he's stopping increase the deficit, and isn't that good on principle? And you've argued to me that extension of unemployment benefits or hiring of people by the government is ineffective as a stimulus measure. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Someone should take away his federal salary, pension, and social security, because those are adding to the debt and all. He relented late last night, Senate voted and passed, Obama signed it into law. Here is the interesting part, in my view: Rather than winning the fight over funding the bill, Bunning eventually settled for a vote to close a tax loophole enjoyed by paper companies that get a credit from burning "black liquor," a pulp-making byproduct, as if it were an alternative fuel. The amendment failed. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, said Bunning was accepting an offer he had rejected for days. So all this, because he didn't like a tax loophole about whether a specific pulp by-product of paper companies was an alternative fuel or not. And he still failed. lostfan
Sometimes I get bored and read politicians' Facebook pages to see if any smart people are talking. I went on Mike Pence's page today and the answer is clearly no. Here is why: "Good morning Mike! I have a question....if the Dems actually use the reconciliation process to pass this healthcare bill that is directly AGAINST the "will of the people", isn't that a direct violation of the Constitution since they are "required to govern according TO the will of the people"? Wouldn't that be a justifiable reason for impeachment?" I mean, really, I'm not sure where to start. Opposing the healthcare bill is one thing. Making it clear you've never seen the actual Constitution and don't know what a representative democracy, federal republic, or an election is is quite another. Rex Kickass
So, a state senator from California was arrested last night in his state provided SUV and was driving drunk. That's sad and a problem, but not really news to me. Until this came out about it. The State Senator is Roy Ashburn. He was a "family values" proponent and opposed to gay rights. He had an "unidentified male companion" in his car with him. The media is reporting he left a bar called "Faces" that night. "Faces" is the biggest gay bar in Sacramento. So I hope he's fully outed for the big old gay hypocrite that he really is. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/...ore.php?ref=fpa

HuskyCaucasian
Exclusive: RNC document mocks donors, plays on 'fear' The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism." The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how “ego-driven” wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and “tchochkes.” The presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said. In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party’s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives. The presentation explains the Republican fundraising in simple terms. "What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?" it asks. The answer: "Save the country from trending toward Socialism!” .......... One page, headed “The Evil Empire,” pictures Obama as the Joker from Batman, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid are depicted as Cruella DeVille and Scooby Doo, respectively. .......... The 72-page document was provided to POLITICO by a Democrat, who said a hard copy had been left in the hotel hosting the $2,500-a-head retreat, the Gasparilla Inn & Club. Sources at the event said the presentation was delivered by Bickhart and by the RNC Finance Chairman, Peter Terpeluk, a former ambassador to Luxembourg under President George W. Bush. The RNC reacted with alarm to a question about it Wednesday, emailing major donors to warn them of a reporter’s question, and distancing Steele from its contents. .......... The most unusual section of the presentation is a set of six slides headed “RNC Marketing 101.” The presentation divides fundraising into two traditional categories, direct marketing and major donors, and lays out the details of how to approach each group. The small donors who are the targets of direct marketing are described under the heading “Visceral Giving.” Their motivations are listed as “fear;” “Extreme negative feelings toward existing Administration;” and “Reactionary.” Major donors, by contrast, are treated in a column headed “Calculated Giving.” Their motivations include: “Peer to Peer Pressure”; “access”; and “Ego-Driven.” The slide also allows that donors may have more honorable motives, including “Patriotic Duty.”
