Seven votes shy would indicate Dems voted against the bill, no? So CNN full of....oh fuggedaboutit..

That would mean probably 4 Dems, give or take, voted against it. So I'd say CNN calling it a GOP block is accurate, given they all voted against it.

A conservative activist known for making undercover videos plotted to embarrass a CNN correspondent by recording a meeting on hidden cameras aboard a floating "palace of pleasure" and making sexually suggestive comments, e-mails and a planning document show.

James O'Keefe, best known for hitting the community organizing group ACORN with an undercover video sting, hoped to get CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session, those documents show.

The plan apparently was thwarted after Boudreau was warned minutes before it was supposed to happen.

"I never intended to become part of the story," Boudreau said. "But things suddenly took a very strange turn."

Sigh.

They should have just called it The Daily Show. Everyone would have thought it was hilarious then...

Yeah...because John Stewart regularly abducts people and locks them in his sex cave. That's why Jimmy Carter can't stay off that show.

What it means to be homosexual in America.

Sept. 1: Fall semester begins at Rutgers. Dharun Ravi and Tyler Clementi are roommates in Davidson dormitory on Busch Campus.

Sept. 19: Twitter feed from Ravi: “Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with another dude. Yay.”

Sept. 21: Twitter feed from Ravi: “Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes, it’s happening again.”

Sept. 22, around 8 p.m.: Friends say Clementi sends a Facebook update: "Going to jump off the GW Bridge. Sorry."

Later that hour, Clementi commits suicide by jumping from the George Washington Bridge, authorities and the family’s attorney said.

Because homosexuals are the only ones that fit that description.

Why the need for the straw man here?

What was pointed out, correctly, is that they tend to have higher occurances of these things. No one is saying its not true of anyone else, other than you.

This is the kind of s*** that ruins any reasonable discussion.

I think it's ridiculous to point to these unfortunate events as a microcosm of something bigger. My point is that homosexuals are not the only "minority" that gets teased/ridiculed/outcasted to the point where the begin to suffer from issues like depression which may lead to suicide.

To say that this one sad event is what it means to be gay in the United States equally "ruins" reasonable discussion on the issue.

You are making two opposing points here. You are saying that other minorities are treated badly, but then saying this event isn't part of one of those minorities' reality. Which is it?

Balta didn't pin an argument on others who didn't say it - that is what you did.

Let's put it this way.

Balta was a bit strident to have titled his article link that way, because this is not "what it means", its "a sad sign of what hate can do".

Jenks, you responded by creating a straw man, which adds nothing to the discussion.

Just saying, maybe both of you could use a little less hyperbole and silly talking points.

They're one of the largest targets as it's still socially acceptable (and even preferable) to hate people in the LGBT community in many parts of the country. As a whole, they receive some of the worst discrimination and hatred. Calling it teasing or ridiculing is a severe disservice to what they face on a daily basis.

You don't think its a problem because you didn't experience that.

The University of Michigan has barred an assistant state attorney general from its campus.

Andrew Shirvell's blog targets U of M student body President Christopher Armstrong.

The assistant attorney general says the openly gay Armstrong is recruiting first-year students into "the homosexual lifestyle."

He calls Armstrong "Satan's representative on the student assembly."
