Balta1701
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Of course, this is not something I blame on BushCo. I'd say they have only a very small amount of the blame for the current conditions. But you know what? That gets back to that weird trend that no one has ever been able to really figure out...75% of the years, the stock market does better under Democrats than under Republicans. Prior to this cycle, the only years that broke those trends were election years with Republicans in power...where the stock market does better in those election years and goes back to being stagnant after the Republican wins. No one's ever come up with a solid guess about how that happens, but the reality is it does.

No one's ever come up with a solid guess about how that happens, but the reality is it does. Economic changes occur regardless of who is in power. And what effect Congress/Prez do have, can sometimes be immediate, but more often would come down the line. So, I wouldn't read much into that. Bush Sr was right when he said the Prez can do only a little about the economy - he just shouldn't have said it until after he left office. HuskyCaucasian
I dont think this has been posted yet: McCain gets interviewed on Spanish (aka SPAIN) radio, and then rambles on about Latin America.. ummm.. not the same thing John. Late Wednesday night, news made its way from the other side of the Atlantic that John McCain, in an interview with a Spanish outlet, had made a series of bizarre responses to a question regarding that country's prime minister. "Would you be willing to meet with the head of our government, Mr. Zapatero?" the questioner asked, in an exchange now being reported by several Spanish outlets. McCain proceeded to launch into what appeared to be a boilerplate declaration about Mexico and Latin America -- but not Spain -- pressing the need to stand up to world leaders who want to harm America. Finally, the questioner said, "Okay, but I'm talking about Europe - the president of Spain, would you meet with him?" The Senator offered only a slight variance to his initial comment. "I will reunite with any leader that has the same principles and philosophy that we do: human rights, democracy, and liberty. And I will confront those that don't [have them]." The implication seemed fairly clear: McCain was refusing to commit to meet with Zapatero, the "socialist" party leader, whose country is a member of NATO and intricately involved in many of America's global financial and national security objectives. BigSqwert
I love Jon Stewart: Stewart: As you know, our country, America, is having a robust discussion right now about energy – we’re addicted oil, black gold, Texas tea, dinosaur love juice. Basically there’s two schools of thought. Some people think offshore drilling is the answer… McCain (Aug. 6): We have to drill here, and we have to drill now, and we have to drill immediately. Stewart: Other people are against drilling. Think it’s just a band-aid…. McCain (May 28): It will only postpone or temporarily relieve our dependency on fossil fuels. Stewart: Boy, I’d like to be fly n the wall when those two run into each other.
