Balta1701
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) I've been consistent in my "f*** Obama" stance on all of those issues. And sadly, those are now mainstream and the other party thinks they're not done enough.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) That's kind of funny because I just read an article yesterday highlighting how many of the things the Dems hated about Bush policy, they now approve of. Well yeah. The GOP has run way-right in the past decade, and the Dems have begun leaning a bit further right too. Obama, aside from one piece of policy that wasn't even what he originally wanted (health care), has been running in a place that 15 years ago would not even be considered Dem. He'd be around the middle, if not slightly right. The health care act pushes him to lean-left though.

NorthSideSox72
Get a room you two. And in terms of the parties and their changes of stance, it is more like a slide than any sort of flip-flop. The 90s' contract with American stuff led to a boom in religious fervor over politics, then 9/11 happened and all of a sudden the party just lurched way the hell to the right. The Dems partially slid with them, though not as far. That's just where the country is at the moment. It will likely start sliding back the other way at some point. And Illinois, normally a relatively progressive state, makes that situation worse with the way they handle school funding. See Savage Inequalities. Although, those gaps funding-wise have diminished somewhat, so I can't think it is entirely about funding. There have to be other factors here. See Savage Inequalities. Although, those gaps funding-wise have diminished somewhat, so I can't think it is entirely about funding. There have to be other factors here. I wouldn't say it's "Entirely about funding" either...there's a whole set of parental involvement and ability issues which are also directly correlated with income level that fit in there too. StrangeSox
Scott Walker is going to use almost all of the bank fraud settlement money not for helping homeowners in need but to fill short-term budget holes. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/02/1...tlement-budget/ Of a $31.6 million payment coming directly to the state government, most of that money – $25.6 million – will go to help close a budget shortfall revealed in newly released state projections. [Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen], whose office said he has the legal authority over the money, made the decision in consultation with Walker. “Just like communities and individuals have been affected, the foreclosure crisis has had an effect on the state of Wisconsin, in terms of unemployment. … This will offset that damage done to the state of Wisconsin,” Walker said. What a piece of garbage.

He'll go down in the recall election. He's the poster child for overreaching. He was swept in on a wave of anger over poor management of state budget and government... the people who have been happy with some of the things he did, like getting state unions to agree to cuts, cutting some other budget items... but then he goes and does really stupid s*** just for the sake of LOOKING conservative. Like this above. Or like turning down a BILLION dollars of federal money for a rail system that would cost them basically nothing. Or like not only getting concessions from the unions, but making it so the unions couldn't even negotiate in the future. It will be fun to watch him go down in flames. He deserves it. The fact that there is no clear opponent yet means those numbers are pretty irrelevant. What is relevant is the current feeling of people in the state against Walker. But of course it is true, this will depend on who runs against him. If the opponent turns out to be a complete disaster, then Walker gets to stay.
