StrangeSox
QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 18, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Sheeple = you wonderful people who will ultimately vote for Barack Obama blindly because you don't give a damn where the country goes as long as everyone is "equal" and the marxist/socialistic reforms that are gradually making us more like Europe every day continues. You know, "for the little people". Your freedoms are being taken from you every day, yet you want more of it. There you go, sheeple. If the shoe fits, wear it. If not, go back to blindly giving away your life to your government, you know, for fairness and all. Ps i didn't say what word i meant in that other post! kapkomet
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) Yawn. It's really not even worth acknowledging this crap. The worst part is, there's a chance you actually think that. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 18, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) As was it was said: Bah bah black sheep, have you any wool? Read your Nietzsche and get back to me on who he would consider sheep. Check out Genealogy of Morals, Beyond Good and Evil and The Twilight of Idols. Its just tiresome to read Nietzsche brutalized by you, at least just come up with a new term if your going to steal his ideas and not actually understand them, maybe goats? That way you arent just parroting another author's ideas incorrectly. *YAWN* Who cares? Obviously the sheeple don't. I think the sheeple would vote for Saddam Hussein. It *is* possible to get 97% of the vote, or 53% in "the US of Ameri(kkk)a."

StrangeSox
A couple of Congressmen are trying to lift the ban that bars government propaganda from being used on US citizens. Balta1701
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Arizona's Secretary of State goes birther, requests confirmation of President Obama's birth from the State of Hawaii in response to email requests from his constituents, adds threat to keep him off of the ballot in November. The Arizona SecState's "investigation" in this matter was supposedly based on 1200-ish received emails asking him to look into the question. Logically, this has led people to conclude that 1200 emails is sufficient to convince the Arizona SecState to investigate anything. So far, there are now 15,000 people signed on to a petition calling on him to investigate reports that Mitt Romney is a unicorn.

Balta1701
There is now enough data out there to tell this as a consistent story. I'll use this particular poll as an example. Maryland will be having a referendum this fall on a new bill that legalized gay marriage. Polling on that issue 2 months ago gave a narrow lead to the pro-civil-rights side. That was before the President's announcement. In that polling, as with most polling data, African Americans were fairly strongly against Gay Marriage. Then, President Obama announced his support for Gay Marriage. In poll after poll for the last month, there has been a huge surge in support for gay marriage nationwide, most starkly amongst African Americans. In Maryland, for example, they've gone from opposing Gay Marriage to strongly supporting it. Previously 56% said they would vote against the new law with only 39% planning to uphold it. Those numbers have now almost completely flipped, with 55% of African Americans planning to vote for the law and only 36% now opposed. That is an enormous shift in the polling data for that group, and if that holds up, the Maryland amendment went from being a narrow contest to a blowout. Soxbadger
After using the term what a hundred times, you finally got one right? You didnt go read those books I recommended now did you? Because there is quite a difference between people who change their opinion because someone powerful tells them to (this example) and your common use of the term, which you were applying to people who previously held the belief, and then were sticking to their belief, when someone powerful agreed with him. Although I would probably be able to argue successfully that its more likely that once people saw the error of their ways, they changed their mind. For example: For many years it was believed that the Sun revolves around the Earth. When Copernicus said that the Earth revolved around the Sun, people who agreed with him werent necessarily sheep, and most likely Nietzche (you know the one who created the sheep theory) would have argued that it was those who stuck to the antiquated religious dogma were sheep. Because ultimately it was morals/religion that created sheep, so when it comes to gay marriage, it would be likely that those opposed would fall into the "sheep" category as they are blindly following religious dogma (the very essence of his theory) as opposed to those in favor of gay marriage who most likely would not be considered sheep. Its hard to believe that the govt doesnt want a piece of that drug money. So much tax revenue lost. They get a piece of the money. They just get it as campaign contributions from the prison industry/prison unions. And thanks to how we've set up our campaign funding system, those are worth 1000x as much to the "government" as tax revenues.
Soxbadger
They may be worth more to the campaign as a drug dealer is likely not going to directly contribute, but the overall value to society is lost. Most estimates are US consumers spend about 60-100 bil per year on drugs. Think about all the income tax not being paid, all the sales tax not being collected. Doesnt make much sense.
