So it turns out the leaked #BENGHAZI #neverforget White House emails that allegedly showed someone from the state department wanting to remove a bit of CIA "we told you so!" language that was the EXPLOSIVE BOMBSHELL last week were intentionally edited to tell this particular story.

http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2013/05/14/cn...benghazi-leaks/

The actual e-mail from then-Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes appears to show that whomever leaked it did so in a way that made it appear that the White House was primarily concerned with the State Department's desire to remove references and warnings about specific terrorist groups so as to not bring criticism to the department.

“All –

“Sorry to be late to this discussion. We need to resolve this in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation.

“There is a ton of wrong information getting out into the public domain from Congress and people who are not particularly informed. Insofar as we have firmed up assessments that don’t compromise intel or the investigation, we need to have the capability to correct the record, as there are significant policy and messaging ramifications that would flow from a hardened mis-impression.

“We can take this up tomorrow morning at deputies.”

Latest job-safety hazard: explosive poop foam at hog farms

The problem is menacing: As manure breaks down, it emits toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide and flammable ones like methane, and trapping these noxious fumes under a layer of foam can lead to sudden, disastrous releases and even explosions. According to a 2012 report from the University of Minnesota, by September 2011, the foam had “caused about a half-dozen explosions in the upper Midwest…one explosion destroyed a barn on a farm in northern Iowa, killing 1,500 pigs and severely burning the worker involved.”

This didn't really start happening until 2009.

The next time you'll hear about it is when it makes one of those lists of "Funny sounding things the government is spending money researching". Pig waste always makes those lists. It's actually a major issue to deal with, but it sounds hilarious and is therefore government waste.

I posted that 3 days ago, Balta.

Last night they started specifically saying that when the emails were given to CBS by Congressional Republicans they were told directly that they were quotes.

So now the Congressional Republicans are straight-up lying about #BENGHAZI #neverforget, not just spinning nonsense theory after nonsense theory.

edit: I DEMAND Congressional investigations into who "leaked" fabricated emails to the press in order to spread lies about the Administration. Four Americans DIED and these people are just lyinG!!!!!!!!!1

Hillary just needs to admit she was not good at her job and then we can all move on from this. The bigger scandal is the IRS scandal.

that would be a good one to use

Revisiting the ‘Crack Babies’ Epidemic That Was Not

This week’s Retro Report video on “crack babies” (infants born to addicted mothers) lays out how limited scientific studies in the 1980s led to predictions that a generation of children would be damaged for life. Those predictions turned out to be wrong. This supposed epidemic — one television reporter talks of a 500 percent increase in damaged babies — was kicked off by a study of just 23 infants that the lead researcher now says was blown out of proportion. And the shocking symptoms — like tremors and low birth weight — are not particular to cocaine-exposed babies, pediatric researchers say; they can be seen in many premature newborns.

The worrisome extrapolations made by researchers — including the one who first published disturbing findings about prenatal cocaine use — were only part of the problem. Major newspapers and magazines, including Rolling Stone, Newsweek, The Washington Post and The New York Times, ran articles and columns that went beyond the research. Network TV stars of that era, including Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather, also bear responsibility for broadcasting uncritical reports.

So, smoking crack while pregnant is ok? Is that the gist of bringing this to light? Media over-reporting/over-sensationalizing something? That's new?

Seriously, I don't get the interest here.

Anyone regret slashing National Weather Service budget now?

Was the severe weather system culminating in yesterday’s Oklahoma City tornado intensified – or even created – by climate change? That question will almost certainly be batted back and forth in the media over the next few days. After all, there is plenty of scientific evidence that climate change intensifies weather in general, but there remain legitimate questions about how – and even if – it intensifies tornadoes in specific.

One thing, however, that shouldn’t be up for debate is whether or not we should be as prepared as possible for inevitable weather events like tornadoes. We obviously should be – but there’s an increasing chance that we will not be thanks to the manufactured crisis known as sequestration.

As the Federal Times recently reported, sequestration includes an 8.2 percent cut to the National Weather Service. According to the organization representing weather service employees, that means there is “no way for the agency to maintain around-the-clock operations at its 122 forecasting offices” and also means “people are going to be overworked, they’re going to be tired, they’re going to miss warnings.”

Summarizing the problem, the American Institute of Physics put it bluntly: “The government runs the risk of significantly increasing forecast error and, the government’s ability to warn Americans across the country about high impact weather events, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, will be compromised.”

Fear mongering bulls***.

The people in that OK town had 16 minutes of warning about the tornado, which is twice as long as the average warning time. It was a culmination of OK not having very many basements to hide in and the strength of the storm being a rarity. According to WGN, less than 1% of tornadoes are category 4 or 5. This was a 4, for now.

I think this one has to be an EF-5. The one that hit near me in Henryville was an EF-4. It hit a school directly and did not kill a single person inside the building and only a few had minor injuries. This tornado completely leveled a school and killed at least 7. A steel-reinforced concrete school is about the safest place you can possibly be during a tornado and it still wasn't good enough in this case. There's nothing any amount of government money for the NWS or any other agency can do about it. It's a freak thing that may not happen again for 100 years.

Now, I did see video of some mangled cars on an interstate. Those people are f***ing morons for driving right into the path of the tornado.

Apparently smoking crack was good or neutral for babies.

Mostly about the media over-sensationalizing something that wasn't even really a thing to begin with.

Also this which I didn't feel like putting into my own words yesterday:

http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archiv...ck-baby/276070/

Here is a great video on the effects of the "Crack Baby" hysteria of the early 1980s. One thing I did not know was that pregnant women who used crack were actually being prosecuted in response to the madness.

It is hard to ignore the effects of racism here. There is a time-honored American tradition of turning minorities into the vessel for all the country's vices -- as if adultery, murder, idleness and all other manner of sin would disappear with us. This is especially true in the realm of drugs.
