NorthSideSox72
So, Obama is running his 30 minute ad tonight, right? I looked on 5 different f***ing "news" websites that had articles about the ad, and NOT ONE said what time or day the speech airs. How idiotic is that? Pet peeve - I see news articles do this all the time. They talk for many paragraphs about some upcoming event, and then never put in the time and date. What happened to who/what/where/when/why? I'll be out tonight, I wish I had set the DVR to record it. I think it could be an interesting watch. Hopefully it will be available afterwards, somewhere. Soxbadger
Killing it as in doing well. I mean at this point the cult of personality for Obama is just taking over. Just the way this came off was really smooth. It could have come off as arrogant or ostentatious, but the way that they did it as a narrative of "normal" Americans made it come off really well (imo of course.) McCain should have spent every last penny buying the slot at 7:30, getting the last word after that would have been huge.

Or do you spend it putting boots to the ground? If I was McCain, I wouldn't bother with the infomercial. I'd pour the 5 million in Virginia, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. bmags
But McCain doesn't set back WS games. I liked it. I thought it was going to be like Ross Perot's, too, where he just talked. He's got some good doc filmmakers that's for sure. kind of like Hitler.
Balta1701
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) If I was McCain, I wouldn't bother with the infomercial. I'd pour the 5 million in Virginia, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. Putting that money in to a ground operation at this point isn't really that useful. it takes a long time to gear up a ground operation, you can't just buy it at the last minute. And also, I'd ignore PA, shoot for Colorado, VA, Florida.
Balta1701
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Interesting, the one I got just says: Thanks for signing up for an election night ticket. You will receive further information in the coming days. Im wondering if they are giving out tickets to people who donated and/or volunteered first. So we finally have an update on the procedure for the ticketed area. Barack Obama's camp says the election night celebration in Grant Park is for 65,000 spectators, plus 7,500 media members and campaign workers, according to the application filed with the Chicago Park District. The official Nov. 4 event, in south Grant Park’s Hutchison Field, will begin at 9 p.m. and end at 1 a.m., according to the application. If people want to dance in joy, they may have to hum to themselves: The application says there will be no live or amplified music — “spoken word only.’’ Hot dogs, pizza and hot chocolate will be sold; alcohol will not, according to the campaign. Meanwhile, Mayor Daley said the Obama campaign’s decision to require tickets at the Grant Park rally — and to stop issuing tickets on Wednesday — would not alter the city’s meticulous preparation for a rally that could draw more than a million people. “There’s only one section that will have tickets,’’ he said. For those not ticketed, Daley cited the area around Columbus and Balbo for “the general public.” Chicago Parks Supt. Tim Mitchell said he looked forward to the attention that Obama’s celebration would bring Chicago. “CNN, the BBC, Al-Jazeera — they’ll all be broadcasting live from ‘Grant Park — Chicago,’’’ Mitchell said, perhaps with the city’s Olympic bid in mind. The city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications is planning to hold a news conference Friday to outline street closures and what one source called a Òlarge parking-restricted areaÓ that will be in effect downtown on Election Night. Daley said the event could include giant video screens for people without tickets to see Obama’s speech. The Chicago Police Department is canceling days off for most officers from 8 a.m. on Nov. 4 to 8 a.m. on Nov. 5. Uniformed cops will be on L platforms across Chicago because the city is expecting an unusual number of people coming downtown on trains, police said. The city’s new 48-officer Mobile Strike Force, which recently underwent training in crowd control, will be among the special units patrolling the downtown area during the event. Officers won’t be donning riot gear unless they have to control unruly crowds, police said.
Soxbadger
I would have spent it on one huge national buy that is going to be seen in all of the states you mentioned, plus some other states that still are within statistical error and could still swing the other way. If he buys the spot after Obama, he gets the last word and imo that could have a pretty devastating effect. If you noticed McCain did buy a small spot right before the WS, but I doubt that it was on all channels at the same time. As for the documentary it was a "cult of personality" piece. NorthSideSox72
I didn't get to see the adfomercial. But I read something interesting about it this morning... supposedly, the ad did not once mention John McCain or the GOP. And meanwhile, the McCain campaign made an ad and aired it yesterday mocking the ad time, and talking about why Barack Obama can't be President. The ad would had to have been made beforehand of course. So, Obama buys 30 minutes of primetime air, and talks about his vision for the Presidency. McCain responds with a 30 second ad about... Obama's vision for the Presidency. McCain's campaign just keeps getting worse at this game, instead of better.

bmags
I don't know how you can disagree that McCain has had a terribly undisciplined campaign what with the constant campaign bickering getting leaked out as well as new theme every week. Harry Chappas
Has the McCain campaign finally given up on trying to make a point or is their simple goal to and throw out as much stuff as they can to try and get the media to attach to something negative about Obama. I went from 50/50 until Palin hopped on board and then I ran to Obama and now McCain is becoming an embarassment. He almost makes no point at all about what he wants to do. Obama will be uncovered as a member of the PLO by the weeknd if McCain gets his wish. The Obama / Bubba show in Florida last night was pretty good. Oh and the GOP will be jumping on Clinton explaining that Obama ran to Warren Buffet and Clinton's economic advisors to help him understand the economic crisis as you see the president has all of the answers and needs no assistance. Ayers, ACORN, socialism, taxes, national security, the LA Times, etc. I've never seem such awful message discipline for a presidential campaign. He's trying to pull it back to the "national security" issue again. Just seems strange that he's finally focused on the economy, and he has made some inroads there, but then in the final week, instead of trying to keep building up the momentum there on what is definitely the main issue for this election, he goes off-track again.
