Holy s***.

Before that he said she didn't know what countries were in NAFTA, but it's completely overshadowed by what he says after that.

This is just stupid f***ing bulls***. The media perpetuating this is just terrible. Faux News included.

I just wonder why you are so sure that this is the media "perpetuating" something.

I know that people blame the liberal media constantly, but theres also the possibility that the media was easy on Palin and we are going to find out she really had absolutely no clue.

I mean some of her answers to questions are just mind numbing.

They are, and I agree with that point, but I just think it's ludicrous that she doesn't have second grade knowledge. Seriously. This is all just stupid.

What is bulls***? Really, this is a conclusion I came to weeks ago based off answers she gave, not the (relatively easy) questions Couric and Gibson were asking her. It's not something the media is perpetuating, it's the truth, being reported, and expanded upon by credible sources. Same as, say, Obama being a great public speaker, or McCain having a history of service.

I could seriously picture her not knowing who the members of NAFTA are.

I couldn't. I think this is all blown out of proportion crap. But whatever, who cares, it doesn't matter anymore.

It does if there's a pretty large group of people trying to prop her up as the 2012 candidate.

Problem with that is, we constantly see, once or twice a year, one of those polls that asks Americans to do simple things, like Identify Mexico or Iraq or Europe on a map, and like 1/3 of the people they poll miss Mexico and half miss Iraq.

Kap,

Some of it might be hyperbole, but I think that she may have had a stunning lack of world knowledge for a potential VP candidate. I think right now there is a certain group of Republican's who are out to take down Palin, the ones who come from big cities, with big money and big corporate connections.

Obviously all theory, but I just have this feeling so much negative Palin stuff is about to hit.

I didn't remember offhand where Myanmar was, I had to guess because they were brown people and I knew it was in SE Asia. But that's like in a different category than not knowing where China is.

Here's one of those recent attempts to prove Americans are idiots. (From 2006, polling 18-24 year olds, for context to the Katrina/Pakistan questions)

Among the findings:

—One-third of respondents couldn't pinpoint Louisiana on a map and 48 percent were unable to locate Mississippi.

—Fewer than three in 10 think it important to know the locations of countries in the news and just 14 percent believe speaking another language is a necessary skill.

—Two-thirds didn't know that the earthquake that killed 70,000 people in October 2005 occurred in Pakistan.

—Six in 10 could not find Iraq on a map of the Middle East.

—While the outsourcing of jobs to India has been a major U.S. business story, 47 percent could not find the Indian subcontinent on a map of Asia.

—While Israeli-Palestinian strife has been in the news for the entire lives of the respondents, 75 percent were unable to locate Israel on a map of the Middle East.

—Nearly three-quarters incorrectly named English as the most widely spoken native language.

—Six in 10 did not know the border between North and South Korea is the most heavily fortified in the world. Thirty percent thought the most heavily fortified border was between the United States and Mexico.

And almost by definition...Fox News is part of the big money, corporate section of the Republican party.

You both are exactly right. And I think that's why she's getting ran over - they want to put the car in reverse, run over her, and put it back in drive and kill her so she never has a chance again. She pissed off a lot of people.

I'm reading international editorials I'm reading across the net all seem to have one theme - they are all fawning over Obama, they're all excited that Bush is leaving and Obama is coming in simultaneously, and they're all optimistic about America and they're proud of us. I haven't seen this much pro-Americanism outside of a few isolated places since 9-11 to be frank. Though of course, there are some writers asking how he's going to meet the expectations he's been setting and wondering exactly what an Obama administration will bring that's new.

For those of us who cant' see YouTube at work... what is the deal with this Africa thing you are talking about?

In so many words, I believe it was a guy from the McCain campaign telling a Fox reporter (Shepard Smith I believe) that she was incredibly difficult to bring up to speed on a number of things, and that he was stunned at certain things she didn't know. The things he specfically mentioned were that she didn't know what countries were in NAFTA, she thought Africa was a country instead of a continent, and that she resisted preparation before the Katie Couric interview which would've averted the train wreck it turned into. He also said they advisors thought the questions were predictable, and all of them were fair albeit slightly snarky in tone.

Smith: Now that the election is over, Carl, tell us more about those reports of infighting between Palin and McCain staffers.

Cameron: I wish I could have told you more at the time but all of it was put off the record until after the election. There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lack the degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency. We're told by folks that she didn't know what countries that were in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that being the Canada, the US, and Mexico. We're told she didn't understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country just in itself ... a whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability. She got very angry at staff, thought that she was mishandled.....was particularly angry about the way the Katie Couric interview went. She didn't accept preparation for that interview when the aides say that that was part of the problem. And that there were times that she was hard to control emotionally there's talk of temper tantrums at bad news clippings.
