He meant that about as literally as Sean Hannity meant his "Tim McVeigh wannabes" comment a few days ago. That is to say, not at all. You see where he stopped because he thought the admiral or whoever was testifying was going to laugh and he basically ignored it. I'm surprised so many people think is really that mind-numblingly stupid and meant that, he actually had to issue a statement after that where he said something like he is worried that the island is going to be overpopulated.

The guy showed no hint of trying to be amusing at all. He even did the "tip over" gesture with both of his hands and was very deliberate about it. Of course he's going to release a statement saying it was a joke, how could he not and just let that go? If he was trying to be funny it was one, a bad joke, two, delivered absolutely terribly, and three, made no sense. Either way it was still an incredibly stupid statement. This is also not the first time he's made a ridiculous public statement mind you. I did also read somewhere from one of his defenders that he may be experiencing health issues (dementia) due to a battle with Hepatitis C that may have played a role in what he said. If true, i won't hold it against him, but also if true he has no business being in office anymore.

Well, yeah, all of the above is a given.

Well Hannity has proof of the sarcasm as this article from before the show illustrates. "We've got veterans, we've got stay-at-home moms, people who really don't like the direction of the country. They're speaking out and they've been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They've been called un-American. They've been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent," he said.

Of course that's ignored even in the Dem thread on this site...where we have so many highly educated and logical posters..

Was that last part really necessary?

Your post is kinda unnecessary. I mean s*** dude...pretty sure you have a clue about what is said on daily basis about conservatives. I didn't personally attack anyone. I'm in the repub thread and made a pretty insignificant dig, if you can even call it that.

For the record, thanks for clearing that up. Hannity's comment out of context was whack!

Dude... take it down a notch. Wasn't a big deal, just thought it was trite and unnecessary.

The polarization stuff is just getting to me. We've lost a lot of great conversation lately, because everyone seems required to shout from the extremes. Calling half the posters in here stupid - which is what you did - just isn't helping anything. That's all I'm saying.

He's saying that is it done in the other thread all of the time, and nothing is said about it... I kind of agree with him.

What? If you mean that certain politicians or public figures are put into that light, then you are correct, in both threads. My concern was because it was about people HERE. And no, I don't see that happening often, really in either thread. If you see it, feel free to point it out, as I did.

I'm not up a notch...I just disagree with you. Why is the new thing to paint everyone as angry?? I just feel your post was uneccesary and you did so not based on facts, but interpretation. I did not call anyone stupid, I did not shout from the extremes...yet here comes the thread police. You want to know why your losing great conversation...its because this place has become one sided.

I read the filibuster far more than I post because it's just not worth the effort anymore. Unfortunately this board has become the Daily Show to me. I used to love it, but now it's just so anti-anything associated with non-liberal think.

What are you talking about? I read every post in this thread and the Dem thread, and they attack public figures all the time, but I don't recall ever seeing anybody in there posting indirect blanket comments about Soxtalk posters in this thread being stupid or whatever. When individual posters get on each other on a personal level then me or another mod steps in but that's something different. If I'm wrong, please point this out, but actually the only place I ever saw anything close to that that happen was in this thread, and there were probably 3 comments roughly to that effect in the last month or so. I didn't say anything about it because I didn't think it was a particularly big deal.

LOL, you guys cannot be serious about this forum somehow being one-sided on the left. On the right maybe, lately, but even then I'd say the silly extremist theater crap is fairly close to even. Slight right lean lately.

Look at the respective threads, their sizes, and their tones again. I have felt this way for a loooooooong time.

Yeah, this board has had more and more of a left-lean over the past 18 months or so. I think that's partly due to some of the more right-leaning posters becoming less active for various reasons. And yeah, I get the feeling that all conservatives are sometimes painted with the broad brush stroke of ignorance or stupidity. It shouldn't happen, but it gets implied sometimes, even if it wasn't intentional.

Number of posts? There yes, definitely a left lean, I would never say otherwise (*cough* Balta *cough*). In terms of tone, I stand by my previous statements.

But I'll tell you two things.

1. Anyone who wants to call me biased, or that anything I've ever done in this forum as a Mod or Admin was anything other than politically fair, they can shove it. You could not possibly show me an instance of it, because it does not exist.

2. This may not be PC to say, but there is simply a reality here... that while hate and extremism clearly exists on both the left and the right, it is painfully obvious that the percentage of people on the right who choose anger and veiled insults and threats as political themes, has gone up dramatically, starting with 9/11 and amplifying with the decaying economy and Obama's election.

#2 is why I pointed out what I did. Not because the post was hateful or threatening (it was not), but because it was angry and insulting TOWARDS POSTERS HERE. You think I only do that to people on the right? Ask some of the lefties on this board who I've suspended before, or PM'd, or posted to cut it out in here.

Be politically biased all you'd like, just don't think for a second that my admin/mod actions have ever been anything in the vicinity of biased.

IMO, the filibuster has more lefty posts/posters . but it is a Chicago White Sox site, and Chicago is mostly Dems. So I would expect as much.

Here is the thing. Some of the lefty posters in here, are highly verbose. They post a lot, and write long posts. The total material on the left is undoubtedly higher than the right.

But the pattern, we see in here every friggin day, so let's not beat around the bush...

--Balta posts an article and/or some sort of analysis of the issue, which aligns with his left-of-center views, and explains why.

--Kap responds with some one or two line nonsense about GOVERNMENT SAVES!!!

Lefty word count: higher

Righty hate count: higher

That is the s*** that I am talking about. Its ridiculous, and unnecessary.

f***, I'm so frustrated with this, that I'm breaking the damn rules that I wrote, right here. I give. I need a vacation from this forum. See y'all in a few weeks.

Anger, or even chosen ignorance, would be more accurate, you are right. Hate is too strong.

And by chosen ignorance, I do NOT mean what side of the issue one chooses. I mean the choice to not even bother addressing the issue, at all, and instead embracing the "I believe what I believe so your science/facts/data is useless to me" mindset, to get to ANY conclusion.

I don't see this a reality at all. For some reason it is much bigger deal now. There were plenty of hateful rallies and statments involving both our President and Vice President from 2001-2009, but for some reason it was categorized as somehow deserved and OK. Maybe it was because some of the ringleaders were supposed mainstream. That same feeling filtered right through here. The amazing thing is how that tone flipped 180 degrees here, along with the shock that people would question this President in anything approaching a negative tone.

Am I the only one who remember all of the "Dissent is Patriotic" bumperstickers from the previous eight years? What happened to all of that? It is totally accepted here when entire groups of the GOP are mocked. It is completely OK when jokes are made about how stupid people are in the Republican party. Yet if anything remotely the other way happens, panties get wadded about as quick as Scott Linebrink entering a game. You don't think so, look at the response to the Obama throwing out the first pitch thread reaction. Did we see anyone upset about the exact samething when it was Bush, or when it was Cheney, getting booed? Did anyone get suspended for any of the name calling in that thread towards the people who booed? It never even got suggested. Now don't take that as a person indictment of your work here, but it should tell you something about the bias in what is OK and what isn't at Soxtalk overall.
