I'm just saying they designed the system against what Obama just said. They wanted free reign to do whatever they wanted to do. They were tired of being forced to give back portions of their earnings. They were all businessman, and I guarantee you most of them would take issue with the fact that a President told them they made too much money and had a responsibility to give some of it back.

And when a group of businessmen objected to the federal government's placing a tax on Whiskey...we had President Washington putting down a revolution using the army.

No, they didn't. They gave power to people with money and land. They designed the system so that small groups of elite could always control what was going on to protect themselves from government. They gave power to individual states to decide what worked best for them.

That's why I said yesterday they'd be spinning in their graves if they knew how much government invaded everyones lives today.

Good, let them spin. We shouldn't have a government run by small groups of elites.

that's pretty much what we have. like it or not.

Unfortunately.

Actually you can vote out all of Congress and the executive branch and replace them with fresh politicians and within a few years everything would be back the way it is now.

It's scary how far you guys are willing to go to defend the rights of a few people to ruin the lives of everyone else.

You had the exact same hissy fit over the Patriot Act. To me, it is the same thing. We as a nation err on protecting the rights of an individual, even when they are not popular.

Because its quite clear he doesn't believe it.

Like I said, I don't like what he said either. But the idea that he doesn't believe in the phrase you quoted is absurd. He said nothing even approaching that.

I just want the discussion to come back to reality, without all the ridiculous hyperbole that I'm seeing on both sides of the aisle here.

When the President gets up and freely states that he doesn't believe an individual's rights, and then goes on to say we should force people to do for the collective good... Well its pretty clear to me what he believes.

Except he didn't say that.

Are you trolling?

He said nothing of the sort, you're just making s*** up now.

Think what you want, but it is as clear as day to me. It has been a trend for a long time now that individual rights don't matter. This is just another step down that path.

hahahaha.

Man, good thing we have socialized medical care now! Or at least a government single-payer system! Or a public option!

This guy doesn't give a flying s*** about the individual. He's a statist at best, Marxist is more likely, and deinfinitely a socialist.

Only if we go with your wacky world of redefining words and what economic systems are based on a given country's political landscape at a given time.

The biggest piece of legislation by far during his administration is a giant f***ing leap from even the quasi-socialism we see in just about all other Western countries.

"I don't know what you mean by 'glory,'" Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't – till I tell you. I meant 'there's a nice knock-down argument for you!'"

"But 'glory' doesn't mean 'a nice knock-down argument,'" Alice objected.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less."

-Humpty Dumpty, Through the Looking Glass

Oh and please show me anything that indicates he's a Marxist. Please.

Read the Communist Manisfesto and then compare it to what he said this week. He WAY believes in socialism tendencies then he does the free market. Redistribtion of wealth, power of the government and centralization thereof, as opposed to individual freedoms, he's all over that crap. I never hear this guy say anything positive about what's happening, only how we suck and the government needs to fix it all.

Please, lay out the comparison of what he was talking about there to specific text in the Communist Manifesto.

Ok, I'll play here - give me 5 reasons to be positive about the falling-off-the-cliff economy from 2009.

Remember when George W Bush stood in front of the "Mission Accomplished" sign? He was saying that his goal to establish the Fourth Reich was complete. It's very clear to me that's what it meant. And don't laugh at me; that just means you have no argument.

If you think about it, it's about the same thing. Only, I clearly have an arguement, but I don't have an hour to sit here and write a compare and compare.
