pettie4sox
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) So Brownback, the loon Republican in Kansas who has hurt this state in many ways already, catches a break and probably will win. What did the Democrat do? Heaven forbid he went to a strip club when he was single in his 20s. Oh the horror. Looks like the conservative voters who abhor strip clubs will use that as a character flaw of the democrat. What a joke. p.s. This is why a friend of mine, who now is an important federal judge, never drank or smoked pot in college and never picked up a girl for a one-night stand. He'd only be with a college coed in a proper dating situation. He knew he had aspirations of being big-time and did not want to do anything that could come back to haunt him. He led an impeccably clean lifestyle so nobody could do something like this to him someday. He once confessed to me that indeed was the method to his madness, not giving people anything to use against him someday. Brownback being re-elected? Wow. I am pretty sure most men have been to strip clubs and those who say otherwise are straight up lying. And "many" or most men got drunk in college or smoked pot or had a one night stand along the way. Crazy how going to the strip club probably costs this guy this election. mr_genius
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) Missed it. Anything juicy? No it was pretty bad. Basically every question was answered with the exact same stuff from the attack ads that are playing constantly. It basically went like this for the whole debate: Moderator:"So, what are your plans to cut the budgetary deficit in our state?" Quinn: "Bruce Rauner had a company that outsourced jobs to India" Moderator: "But what about the pension crisis?" Quinn: "Billionaire Bruce Rauner pays $150,000 a year to be in an exclusive wine club, but wants to abolish the minimum wage? That's extreme, and Rauner is too extreme for Illinois." mr_genius
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) That's golden. What about Rauner? He was a little better than Quinn, but he got confused and answered the wrong question a couple of times. Like he would answer the question that was just asked to Quinn but ignore the one they asked him. The moderator was like you answered the wrong question and Rauner nervously answered "uhh...Oh yes, of course I did".

Jake
If the Republicans don't take the governorship, this proves that they are just completely inept in IL. My totally anecdotal read on things is that nobody likes Quinn

My totally anecdotal read on things is that nobody likes Quinn Rauner should win in theory but this is once again the Republicans failing to put a candidate people can relate to. Y2HH
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) If the Republicans don't take the governorship, this proves that they are just completely inept in IL. My totally anecdotal read on things is that nobody likes Quinn Having a D next to your name in IL is 45% of the battle. All you have to do is make up about 6% of the remaining vote to secure a victory. The fact that Quinn is having this much trouble against an out of touch rich guy that nobody can relate too shows the ineptness on both sides if you ask me. Jake
http://theweek.com/article/index/269549/wh...from-socialists Roger Scruton, conservative philosopher, released a new for-the-masses book. I would agree with the above article's author's sentiment that he's one of, if not the only present-day conservative thinker whose work will have real staying power. I am not myself conservative, but there's nobody who can explain and argue on behalf of this worldview like Scruton. He has a way of explaining conservatism that nobody in American politics can, where it sounds like a discrete, coherent, and logical ideology. Full disclosure, I've met Roger and am a fan of his work on aesthetics, so I have some reason to like his stuff beyond just thinking it's good. pettie4sox
That and those attack ads probably have merit about him laying off workers and obsessing over profits. I mean, that's business albeit probably not a very ethical way of doing it; and people are going to blow a gasket if he does something to that helps his rich buddies and leaves the middle class voter out to dry. He's offering to reverse Quinn's income tax hikes. That'll play nicely with most voters. It still saddens me that rich guy = horrible person in this country. Or more accurately, rich guy who is a Republican. Quinn isn't nearly as rich but he's still rich, as are most politicians these days.
