whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Policy-wise, that sounds like the opposite of what the GOP needs. I mean, that's what they have already been pedaling, and what we saw from most of their primary field. What they need is someone more moderate socially, and more conservative fiscally and intergovernmentally. Now of course, as we saw this election, the discussion is not entirely about policy. You are probably right, and realistically that is very close to the description of how I am politically. Maybe I'm just being negative since I never expect to see a candidate that represents my values.
DukeNukeEm
This is kind of ridiculous thing to go over, but assuming Obama has a successful presidency there will be a glutton of Democrats to succeed him. I wouldn't be shocked to see Michelle Obama running for office at some point in her life after Barack's presidency. The Republicans have a real problem with young, energetic people in thier party. lostfan
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) You are probably right, and realistically that is very close to the description of how I am politically. Maybe I'm just being negative since I never expect to see a candidate that represents my values. I am that way too... socially liberal (or liberatarian, however you want to define it), fiscally conservative and generally in favor of smaller government and free market policies. But I'm usually more willing to compromise for the latter against the former... I will not vote for someone who, for example, openly supports things like Proposition 8, and I'm also turned off by hawkish rhetoric even though I'm not a pacifist. Which usually pushes me a lttle to the left. I'm sure the GOP is aware of all the voters like us, there are a few on this board even, but they can't do anything about it b/c the social conservatives have so much influence. I respect people's rights to protest and make asses of themselves, but in cases like this where they clearly cross the line, they need to be punished, and with more than just a slap on the wrist. It has to be somewhat severe to serve as a warning to them and others that there IS a line you can't cross. All those Code Pink protests we were subjected to the last 2 years? not one charge ever brought against them, for anything. There has to be something they can be charged with, even if it is just a misdemeanor. but they are always let go, facing no reprecusions, so they feel empowered to do it again, and again. protest all you want. but be prepared to pay the price if you break the law. Make them pay at least to cover all the expense of thier civil disobedience. There are fines and in some locals jail time for the crap they do, but it never gets imposed. mr_genius
wait a minute.... is this the Republican thread? nevermind I do have a solution to the GOP mess; evangelicals have been threatening to vote Democrat if all their demands are not met, so you guys (the Democrats) can have them. They cost more votes than they bring in now-a-days. And they can start destroying the Democrats from within like they did to the GOP
