DaTank
Set to be as follows: 1) Buehrle 2) Floyd 3) Danks 4) Vazquez 5) Contreras http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws White Sox set post-break rotation Starters will have long layoffs due to All-Star break By Shawn Shroyer / MLB.com ARLINGTON -- Following a meeting with the starting pitchers prior to Saturday's game, pitching coach Don Cooper announced his rotation for after the All-Star break. The White Sox will send out left-hander Mark Buehrle after the break to pitch the first of three games against Kansas City. Right-hander Gavin Floyd and left-hander John Danks will pitch the second and third games of the series with the Royals. Right-handers Javier Vazquez and Jose Contreras will round out the rotation and pitch the first two games of Chicago's home series with Texas. "The foundation of our team is the pitching staff," Cooper said. "They've done a nice job in the first half, and we've got a hard second half coming up, so they'll need to be ready for it." The rotation will be altered a bit from how it was slated going into the All-Star break. Vazquez last pitched on July 9 and won't start again until July 21, giving him a 12-day layoff between starts. Contreras, who is scheduled to start Sunday before the break, won't pitch until July 22, giving him nine days between starts. Buehrle, Floyd and Danks will all have eight days off between starts. Although Chicago's starting pitching ERA is an impressive 3.78, no White Sox pitchers will represent the team in the All-Star Game. "Everybody has long layoffs," pitching coach Don Cooper said. "We looked at a lot of little things like: Who do we want to give the most starts? But we're comfortable with everybody, really." Manager Ozzie Guillen added that the team took into consideration which pitchers could take on the most innings and provide the most consistency. While none of the starters vehemently objected to the rotation, Guillen said it wouldn't have made a difference if one had. "Believe me, you cannot please everybody," Guillen said. "And every team's pitchers are going through a long time off, so we're not the only one going through that situation." Thoughts? flavum
If they don't skip anyone, and they don't have any rainouts, the 2-3-4 guys are going to have the bulk of the Tigers and Twins games. Asking a lot of Floyd and Danks, but I can't blame them.
WilliamTell
I'd rather have Mark face the Twins and Tigers as much as possible. It doesn't matter about the ERA or record, to me, he's the one I want out there. Although Danks is doing a great job this year.
Swingandalongonetoleft
Gavin Floyd doesn't mind facing Detroit one bit.
SoxFan1
According to this, Danks will pitch the finale against KC on the 20th and on 7 days of rest...and I'll be there. Sweetness.

Baines3
I don't mean to be negative but I don't have much faith in Vazquez when he is pitching. I never cared much for him as a starter.
Disco72
I think the bigger question is what to do with John Danks. He's the team's best pitcher, and with a narrow lead in the division, the Sox need him to continue pitching well. However, his most innings pitched in a season is 156 in 2005, and he only pitched 139 and 140 innings the last two years. Following SI's Tom Verducci's " Year After Effect" Danks should only pitch a maximum of 30 innings over his career high (and being conservative on this is a good thing). As the #3 in the rotation after the All Star break, Danks would be on schedule for 14 more starts and about 84 more innings (added to his 114.2 season total). If the Sox make the postseason, those innings would also be a factor. Right now, two of our veteran "innings eaters" are scheduled to pitch the least innings the rest of the way, which is great based on this season's performance but not great based on burning out the Sox's young arms. The question, then, is what to do with him for the rest of the season? With 6 off days, the Sox could skip his spot a few times. Masset could make some spot starts (thankfully the bullpen is low on innings relative to the rest of the league). When rosters expand later this season, some starts could be made by one of our AAA guys. While the Sox have limited Danks' innings pitched by pulling him earlier than other pitchers, I think the team will need to do more starting right after the AS break to make sure he's healthy and effective for the rest of this season, the postseason, and beyond. GreatScott82
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) this is a message to vazquez and contreras more than anything yep and a possitive message to Danksy and Floyd because lets face it, they got us here. None of us expected these guys to do what there doing. Kudos to KW and Coop on this one. However, I am worried about Contreras. Now maybe he will do what he did in the 2nd half of 2005 and dominate, but i would love to get another starter some how to beefin up our rotation for a playoff run. maggsmaggs
Vazquez IMO when on is the best pitcher the Sox have, however, we really haven't seen him be on too much this year, but he also can't really fight out there when he doesn't have his good stuff like Danks has done this year and to a certain extent Floyd. the oakland game was close with the exception of two pitches for Vaz where he was lights out. Contreras IMO also has the lowest floor.

EDIT: fixed link This is a big concern for us. A few people mentioned on here getting a good 6 game lead to call Broadway up and give Danks some rest. If we don't get a lead like that, it can tough on us. Of course this is considering Javy and Contreras don't continue pitching like they have or we won't be in first for long. Detroit's pitching he been better and who knows how long those young guys over in Minn hold up.
fathom
Contreras will face the Rangers and Twins in his first two starts. It would be a nice surprise if we can see someone else in that spot.
chw42
I hope Danks doesn't pitch against the Twins, he gets eaten alive by Morneau and Mauer.

maggsmaggs
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I hope Danks doesn't pitch against the Twins, he gets eaten alive by Morneau and Mauer. The amazing thing about those two are that they hit lefties tremedously well and Danks pitches better to righties, but stats aside Danks is the best we have and I want him to face the opposition's best. He struggled against Minny earlier, but Danks is a different pitcher than he was the first couple of starts.
