whitesoxfan101
Charlotte beats Richmond 3-2. Fields, Richar, and Cortez all go 1-3 with an RBI. Ohka was ok, Derek Rodriguez, Wassermann (win), and Childers (save) all great in relief. Birmingham on the all star break until Wednesday. Winston-Salem falls 7-5 at Kinston. Sanchez went 2 for 5 with a run, double, and 2 RBI. Shelby 2 for 4 with a run, double, RBI, and walk. Santeliz takes the loss and struggles a bit (5 IP, 5 hits, 7 runs, only 3 earned, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, 2 homers). Texeira lowers his ERA to exactly 1, is Birmingham in his near future? Kannapolis had their game at Rome rained out. Bristol leads 6-1 at Greeneville in the 8th. Gregory Infante with another very good start, lots of contributors on offense. Great Falls visits Ogden at 8 PM. Edited July 14, 2008 by whitesoxfan101
Jim Spencer
Derek Rodriquez has pitched well since moving up from Birmingham ( 1.59 ERA in 8 games). I wonder why he's only pitched in relief this year with the Barons and the Knights? He was 14-5 as a starter last year at Winston-Salem. Chisoxfn
They were grooming him for the pen, IIRC. Rodriguez has a very live arm and is one of the few relievers in our system that I consider a "prospect". Others include Omogrosso (very good live arm, although he was starting in Bham and I thought he got hurt but I honestly haven't been paying a ton of attention to his stats as of late). Ozzie Ball
It seems Gerst's injury hasn't caused him to miss a beat, he went 2-3 with a grand slam, 4 runs scored, 3 walks (that's great to see) and a stolen base. His OPS on the year now is at 1.197, admittedly that's only through 12 games but he does already have as many extra base hits this year (8) as he had all of last year (57 games). Omogrosso has been fighting a lingering blister problem all season. He's on his second DL stint because the blisters on his throwing hand won't heal.
