Speeding up my CPU

My computer is still pretty new, but is starting to chug.  Is there any good way to clean it up and speed it up.  That's other than disk cleanups and defrags.

go to start->run, type msconfig, go to the startup tab

a lot of programs start without you knowing when you start the computer, and use up RAM. this site tells you which ones you need going, and which ones you don't.

Thanks spiff, my system resources are now at about 77% free, and that's with my internet service running. Without the internet running it was 90%. That's a big boost. Anyone have any other ideas.

Is there a good free program to stop pop-ups.

i prefer this to a pop up blocker that's always running and can block certain java applets. it scans your hard drive for spyware that gives you pop ups and deletes it.

Wow, that's a great program spiff. I didn't realize how many of those spywares were on my PC. Thanks a lot for the help.

spiff you done great lad. you have improved alot.

now if that person wants to go to the start, searc and look in the files for (.tmp, .temp, *.temp and *tmp)

everytime you start a computer the memory cache goes somewhere and you need to delete them.

the next step if for season veterans, go into the registry and manually clean out the garabage.

Or get a Mac.

Just sayin'. Where's FlaSoxxJim when I need him for backup? :)

No viruses or spyware is pimp.

Or download Linux for free and install it on your current machine without spending a gazillion dollars for a Mac. :)

Not trying to start anything... :o

I bought myself a stable iMac running both9.2 and 10.3 simultaneously with 512 MB of Ram a 40 GB hard drive a printer some paper, a .Mac membership and a surge protector for just over 600.

I'm happy with my purchase, but I want to get a G5 laptop for college....my grandma's buyin', I think.
