Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 03:06 AM) Just got back. 1.There is a good chance Two Face isn't dead. I'm not buying it. As someone mentioned earlier, Dent may be dead, but Two-Face is still around. Just a hunch. 2. I have to laugh at the so called "pot-holes", as "why didn't so and so die when this happen, or how was it possible they did this? People, while the movie may appear to be much more than a comic book movie, it is. Thats where it's heart is. It's a COMIC base movie. It's not supposed to be a mafia movie set in Chicago, even if it comes off like it at times, and thats why they can get away with it. 3.Ledger was in fact incredible, and the talk about him up for the AA because of his death is a joke. Would the same be said if his last role was doing "A Knights Tale 2"? 4.IMAX was incredible. I don't know if anyone got the same feeling as I did when in IMAX, but the very first shot of the movie, it was breathtaking in IMAX. You get such a wide scope of how big this movie really is in that first shot. Incredible. I'm not really sure they can do another one. No so much with the way the film ended, but there really isn't any way to top this one. I know Bale is signed onto do one more, so I'm sure in time it will happen, but I don't see it getting much better than this. I don't think anyone said he will be nominated because he died. But, he'll clearly win now that he died and people going insane with praise. Even if there's a better performance before the Oscars roll around, Ledger has it wrapped up. Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I thought the movie was good, but not Oscar worthy. Heath Ledger rocked this role because the character was written amazingly, not because he was any creepier than any other guy would be in that kind of face. He does a good job, but people are only saying Oscar because he's dead. Christian Bale, by the way, is American Psycho all over again in this movie. I kept expecting him to tell Harvey Dent that Whitney Houston's first album had five number one singles and sold 14 million copies. I wish Harvey Dent had been in Batman Begins working in Internal Affairs. I thought that the sub plot between him and Gordon was quite intriguing and deserved more of a role in the creation of Two Face. I also think that Two Face's freakout really should have been another film... because there was a lot there that could have been, and wasn't. All of what you said is blasphemy! The movie was incredibly breathtaking and Ledger's stunning role could never be matched by the likes of a mere mortal.

They don't give out very many posthumous Oscars. Only seven have ever been nominated.

SleepyWhiteSox
Great movie. The arguments about supposed "plot holes" in a Batman movie are silly, in my opinion. My only complaint is that maggie gylenhaal (sp) is hideous. Just an amazing movie. No, it probably isn't oscar-worthy, but only because it isn't an "oscar movie," and the awards as a whole are a joke. Chicago looks absolutely spectacular! Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) Saw it again today with some friends. Something I didn't notice until today stood out, and IMO, confirms my theory a bit more. When Two face is thrown down, and Batman goes after him and the boy, Dent's coin is dropped, and it lands on the clean heads side. They zoom in on the coin and everything. I missed it the first time due to all the commotion going on, but I really focused on that scene based on what I have previously said. To me, thats another "hint" that he ultimately lives. The coin landing on the clean end meant that Gordon lives, as Two Face was flipping the coin to see if Gordon lived or died (or his son). It had nothing to do with Two Face. greasywheels121
Pretty sweet movie, but it's not the GREATEST.MOVIE.I'VE.EVER.SEEN. The Joker was a really fun character; it's a shame they can't legitimately continue the story on with him. Also, it was awesome to see the city of Chicago used as heavily as it was for Gotham City in this one. I like the detail of having Gotham have Illinois-looking license plates. Jenksismyhero
Ok, saw it today, and here are my thoughts: 1. Ledger was great. But I think the fact that he's dead does add another level to it. Plus, everyone compares his role to Jack Nicholson who basically hammed it up and made the Joker a criminal clown, not a psycopath. He's a very "real" joker which is what everyone wanted to seen. Plus, he did have some GREAT writing to work with. Kudos to the writers for some great and memorable scenes (the nurse outfit was hilarious). But I still think his performance stole the show. Good stuff. 2. Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne = good. Christian Bale as Batman = atrocious. I CAN NOT STAND his low whisper. It sounds so bad I was shaking my head everytime he did it. What's strange is that when he wasn't the focal point of the scene he didn't do the stupid voice, which made it passable. But whenever he had to deliver a big line, especially a long one, it just sounded so bad for a movie that did nearly everything perfectly. 3. Supporting cast was awesome. 4. I feel bad for anyone who didn't see this on IMAX. Totally worth the extra 5-6 bucks. Chicago looked amazing (and it was fun to see the 3-4 scenes I saw being filmed). 5. I've read through the thread and don't understand the plot hole problems. I mean, if you're getting down to that level why not talk about the little things: how the batmobile functions, let alone how it can ram a big delivery truck in a head on collision (or even further, how after being smashed up it can still eject a perfect bike). How the Joker takes down a chopper by stringing two lines across LaSalle - this would be the equivalent of dropping a gallon of water from the top of the Sears Tower and hitting it all into a glass on the sidewalk. Or even bigger, that everything the Joker did required about 15 if's to pan out perfectly. You just gotta go with it. You can't take a comic book movie (or any movie really) and expect it to be 100 percent believable....remember, we're talking about a guy dressing up in a costume and not being killed with all the crazy stuff he does... The only one to me that I didn't get, at all, was when the Joker threw Rachel out of the penthouse - what, 50 stories tall? - and batman saves her by merely catching her and then "landing" on a taxi. There was no gun lines, no wings, no nothing. He just landed and neither one had a scratch. That was the biggest "what?" moment. 6. Stunt work was great. 7. Overall, 9.5/10. Everything I expected and more. Totally agree with the previous poster who said the 2.5 hours flew by. I couldn't believe how quick the movie went and how I was on the edge for most of the movie. knightni
I was being sarcastic earlier about blacksox8 ruining it. I FINALLY SAW IT! I went up to the theater tonight at 6:00 for the 6:40 show. There was already a sign saying that it was sold out. Wow. Good thing I had bought my tickets at 3:00. Pretty good movie. It did get slow for me a bit late in the film between Batman leaving Joker hanging on the building and Gordon facing Two-Face in the factory. I think that the majority of the Two-Face storyline would have been better shown in a third movie.
