Brewers trade for Giants 2B Durham

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes the Brewers will announce a trade on Sunday, potentially involving prospect Darren Ford.

Ford, a speedy center fielder in A-ball, isn't much of a prospect, and a deal involving him likely wouldn't bring back more than a bench player. It's known that the Brewers have talked with the Giants, likely about left-hander Jack Taschner and Ray Durham. The Giants might be willing to accept Ford for Durham, but they'd want more for Taschner.

Street To Brewers Could Be Done Deal

By Coley Ward [July 19 at 7:21pm CST]

Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt thinks Oakland closer Huston Street is Milwaukee-bound. He says the word on the street is outfielder Darren Ford, 22, is the price. Ford was pulled from Brevard County's lineup before its game against Clearwater. Says Haudricourt:

The fact that Ford was pulled from the lineup makes me believe something could be up. He has no injury that I know of.

Baseball America did not list Ford among the Brewers' top 10 prospects before this season, but he was named the organization's fastest baserunner and best defensive outfielder. So far this year in the Florida State League, Ford is hitting .232 with a .321 OBP and a .307 SLG. He's got 44 steals in 87 games.

Is Oakland basically waiving the White Flag in hopes for the future? They have a decent team as it is but I don't question their GM at all.

Beane had his plan and he's sticking too it. He's rebuilding this year, and whether or not his young guys are performing, he's clearing room for anyone he can get in and clearing as much salary as he can.

Argue with his methods if you want, but if you're up against the spending dollars of the Angels...then there's some logic behind going as young as you can, being willing to lose this year no matter what your young guys do, and coming on strong in a year or two while absolutely loaded for bear.

He hasn't really been executing all that well if that's the case. Harden didn't really go for a ransom, many were less than impressed with the return on Blanton, and if it is Salome/Ford for Street, than I'd say it another in the favor of the guy dealing with Beane...

If you look at the first post, they mentioned that.

Yes, but giving up Salome as the "other player" would be quite a lot for two players who aren't exactly impact players. Salome is the 2nd best catching prospect in baseball, according to some.

I see the difference now. And yeah, I'm familiar with Salome. I got to see him play in April.

I clicked on the Milwaukee Journal site that's linked on rotoworld, and there were some comments in it.

Oh. I was reading the blog there but didn't pay attention to the comments.

I don't mean this in a negative way at all, but has one team ever had as many African-Americans on them as the Brewers do? Fielder, C.C., Hall, Cameron, Weeks, Durham.

Tony Gwynn Jr. also played for them this year.

haha not to sound racist here, but I don't think there is another team in baseball that has more African-American guys on their team. Fielder, Hall, Weeks, Cameron, Sabathia, Gwynn, Durham now.

I'm glad Durham is there, I've always liked him and the Brewers are my favorite National League team.
