Harry Chappas
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) I was just going to post that... The guy never liked being THE MAN, or the spotlight in the big series. He is going to get killed in NY. He is their 4th best reliever there really isn't that much pressure on him. southsider2k5
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) He is their 4th best reliever there really isn't that much pressure on him. There is ALWAYS pressure in NY.
YASNY
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) There is ALWAYS pressure in NY. Marte may be a bit more mature now than he was with the Sox, but I wouldn't give the AL East crown to Yanks because they got him.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) New York's gonna eat Marte alive. Have to agree. Unless he's toughened up mentally in a big way (which I suppose is possible), Marte is not going to handle NY well at all.
Dick Allen
I think he might be OK. He was awesome with the White Sox for a while. He did come in Saturday for the Yankees and fan Big Papi. Doesn't get any harder than that. He was a lot more dominating for the White Sox than not. People remember the Boston playoff game, but he was really screwed up then. If his head is on straight, and they use him mostly against lefties, I think he will be a popular member of their bullpen.
DBAHO
They were absolutely desperate for a lefty specialist anyways. Marte's been one of the better ones around in the past couple of season against lefties IIRC, but there will always be questions about how he handles the pressure. I love Tabata as a prospect, but the Yanks did pretty well here. Shows what you can do when you put some money into the farm system so you can make trades like these. Agreed. And while I couldn't stand him in 2005, he was absolutely dominant in 2003 when the Sox were in the playoff chase until September so it isn't like he can't handle the heat of a pennant race. He was an absolute mess in 2005 and needed a change of scenery but he has done well in high pressure situations before.
witesoxfan
He and Ozzie never really got along that well, and Ozzie tended to misuse him a bit at times. There was a time when Damaso Marte was looked at as a closer candidate for the White Sox and it was justified too, so let's not act like he's some super head case. I think as much of that had to do with Ozzie than it did Marte's head alone.
RockRaines
Did someone post his stats yet, because thats the next step to trying to show Marte is dominant. Thats also the same reason people sign David Riske when fans in Cleveland and Chicago laugh. NYC will eat him alive once he blows a game. Nady is having a tough time already. witesoxfan
2002 - 2.83 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, K/BB of 4, K/9 of 10.7 2003 - 1.58 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, K/BB of 2.6, K/9 of 9.8 his clutch and leverage stats are good too CLUTCH: 2002 2003 LEVERAGE: 2002 2003 I've never said anything about his 2004, where he was effective but not dominant, nor his 2005, where he sucked. He was looked at as a potential closer because he was a dominant reliever and the statistics prove it.
RockRaines
There it is. I was waiting for it.
RockRaines
I'd like to point out that Marte walked the bases loaded and gave up a walk off Grand Salami to the Rangers Marlon Byrd
