shipps
Damn, I wanted him here.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) Damn, I wanted him here. No way Cleveland would trade him to the White Sox unless the Sox offered a much better package. If he helped the Sox win it all, it would help the White Sox for years down the road, hurting Cleveland. I actually think his being in LA and Cabrera still available gives it a better chance that the Sox could get him if Crede's back doesn't respond to treatment. I still would make those odds pretty slim.
bighurt4life
This tells me that the Dodgers have soured on LaRoche, replacing him after he's played only 27 games this season. Maybe we can pry him away from them as a buy-low type prospect a-la Quentin this past season. They have too many 3B prospects right now anyways with him Dewitt and a 3rd guy who I can't remember, we should scoop him up on the cheap if we can. Balta1701
So now does Arizona have to make a move to counter?
Balta1701
Man, I actually kind of like the Package the tribe got for him. The Indians received minor league catcher Carlos Santana and right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan. Santana is hitting .323, with 14 homers, for Inland Empire, in the Class A California League. The hard-throwing Meloan is 5-10, with a 4.97 ERA, at Triple-A Las Vegas -- but has piled up 335 strikeouts in only 262 innings in his minor league career. DBAHO
Meloan was projected as the best reliever prospect in baseball before this season IIRC. He'll be their future closer I'd imagine. I'd love to get LaRoche on the cheap if at all possible. We'd have to move Fields most likely (Roberts deal maybe) to do so however.
