With only 10 hours left to vote on MLB.com and ESPN.com for the final position player on each League's All-Star Team, the races remain close.

As of 8:00 a.m. EDT today a record more than 7 million ballots have been cast in the etopps All-Star Final Vote program, compared to the 3 million ballots cast for the entire voting period last year.

Jason Varitek of the Boston Red Sox continues to lead the American League candidates and has slightly widened his lead over Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox in second place. Jason Giambi of the Yankees has moved into third place ahead of Eric Byrnes of Oakland and Bengie Molina of the Angels.

In the National League contest for the final position player spot Geoff Jenkins of the Milwaukee Brewers continues to hold a narrow margin over Benito Santiago of the San Francisco Giants. Orlando Cabrera of the Expos has moved slightly ahead of Luis Castillo of the Marlins followed by Kenny Lofton of the Pirates.

Voting continues through 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 9 on MLB.com and ESPN.com. The winners of the etopps All-Star Final Vote program will be announced following the close of voting today.
