DBAHO
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Konerko can't be traded. The White Sox don't pay contracts when they ship people off. Konerko has no trade rights and no team will assume the contract. Bad philosophy to have then. Konerko has his 10/5 rights doesn't he, so he'll only approve a trade to a West Coast team I would imagine, somewhere close to his home in Scottsdale. A team like the Giants who would only have to pay Konerko say 6/7M for a couple of season and trade an insignificant minor leaguer for him, might well take the chance and hope he rebounds. heirdog
QUOTE (JohnStamos @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Well considering the trade deadline is hours away I feel pretty confident in saying that Paul Konerko will be on the White Sox for the rest of the season. Finding someone who wants him, getting him to waive his 10-5, and finalizing a deal before 3 is not something that I would call possible right now. Metz
Nick Masset didnt know about the deal .. haha Once again i wasnt fully listening but some radio guy called him and hung up because they didnt want to break the news to him.
WilliamTell
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) LOL, okay, logically this wasn't a very good deal for us... but as a baseball fan, I'm smiling and laughing and I think this is awesome. I'm with you on this. I don't know how old you are, but if you're like the majority of the board here, you were a youngster when Griffey seemed like a God like figure in baseball. Getting Griffey brings the kid back in me and excites me as well.
WCSox
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) Konerko can't be traded. The White Sox don't pay contracts when they ship people off. Konerko has no trade rights and no team will assume the contract. Konerko also has little trade value when he's hitting around the Mendoza Line and playing with tendinitis in his hand. bmags
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) One could argue, on another team Massett and Richar could be insignifcant minor leaguers on other teams. haha, true. Listen, everyone. This team needed one of the two great players from the 90's like we had in 05 in the dugout. half green.

jenksycat
QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Why rebuild the team now???? We're in 1st place... a 47 year old Ken Griffey is not rebuilding, trading all your stars for a couple dozen prospects is rebuilding. I agree, but it would not be unheard of that Konerko has "pre-approved" deals to a few teams.

Dick Allen
Griffey is hitting .245 with 15 homers. Last year Konerko hit .259 with 31 homers and everyone was saying how much he sucked. Its going to be ugly seeing Griffey's pot belly giggling as he's chasing balls in the gaps. I give him 2 weeks before he's on the DL. As one of the comments in the Tribune stated: 1995 called and said great trade. The only way this is any good is if KW has a corresponding move. Hard to get hot, when you're riding pine. Hopefully has a few good BP sessions. I am just worried that the mentally fragile Konerko will hang his head even more and this will make him completely useless...he's close right now but for what he has done for this organization, we owe him a mulligan for this season. Just not at the cost of the penant so sit for a majority of this year (be a solid bench producer) and get things right next year.
joejoesox
I want to punch Lawrence Holmes in the face. Yesterday, when the Sox were sitting 0.5 up in the division, he was all doom and gloom, and proclaiming the twins were going to win this thing Right now, "If the sox win tonight, this series didn't happen, and actually the Sox gained." What a douchebag, SERIOUSLY.

NorthSideSox72
OK, OK, I've got it all figured out. Cabrera will get traded next, for a pitcher. Konerko will be moved to Shortstop, where his offensive numbers won't look as bad. Dye to 1B. Griffey in RF.
