JPN366
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) Sure does make that Cunningham trade bad though. I second that.
kane0730
Hopefully Masset gets his crap together and throws a couple of gems against the Cubs.
maggsmaggs
Richar and Massett, seems like a hefty price to pay.
scenario
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) I'd rather see Griffey to go right, Swisher stay in center, and Dye play first. I've heard many posters talk about Dye playing first in the future, maybe this is the time now. That's an interesting overture, William Tell. ChWRoCk2
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) There has to be someone else coming to us.... Arroyo? Maybe Weathers?
JPN366
Richar will only have to cross the field to go to the other dugout.

JohnStamos
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) Hmm. Any word on us getting anything else back? According to that CBS article, the Reds will pay for Griffey's contract. That probably forced the White Sox to give up a good deal more than if they were willing to take on that deal. nitetrain8601
After reading the article, it said Griffey wants answers unrelated to his contract. So basically he probably wants to be assured that he won't be a bench player.
JPN366
QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) Maybe Weathers? I seek vindication, so I hope so.

Kalapse
A LARGE portion of Griffey's deal with the Reds is deferred from '09 through '26 so it's definitely a good thing that the Reds are picking up the tab.

Princess Dye
If that's the price, hey, more bats are cool to have. For some reason i have this feeling Swisher could be going to some costcutting team, since his contract is cheap
Kyyle23
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) Richar and Massett, seems like a hefty price to pay. a rarely used long man and a buried-on-the-depthchart 2nd basemen are a hefty price to pay? heirdog
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) Danny Richar is not f***ing insignificant! The Reds are picking up part of the salary as is expected in all Reinsdorf signed-off trades for big ticket guys. The future is probably a double play duo of Ramirez and Beckham with Getz or others in a utility role. So, you're right...not insignificant but certainly not anything that would make me break off talks. Griffey, if he gets hot, can carry this offense for the stretch run and it might be worth the risk of giving up Richar.
WilliamTell
QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) That's an interesting overture, William Tell. haha nice one, on my XM radio they've confirmed the trade as well. I don't mind giving Richar up, 2B/SS is probably our deepest spot in the farm system and I don't see Richar playing too much in the future if he was here.
