danman31
QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) I'd be willing to bet whoever the team it is you root for probably does not have 10% of the program success Nebraska has had. You're probably a little jealous of Nebraska and love to see them down. They will be back. Oklahoma had it's down years, USC, Florida st ect. The impostors like Kansas, Missouri, Texas Tech, Maryland all come back down to earth after their 2 year runs. Right. Well good thing they are a joke of a program now so I can laugh at them while I can. Are you a Nebraska fan or something? I just made a comment about a team going down 28 points in less than 6 minutes. That's disgustingly horrible and I am going to mention that. They have been winning steadily for years now.. in fact In July 2007, ESPN ranked all 119 FBS (formerly 1-A) football programs on performance from 1997 to 2006 and placed Texas Tech at number 32.[16] Also, with twelve, the Red Raiders rank fifth nationally in consecutive winning seasons, trailing only Florida State (30), Michigan (22), Florida (19), and Virginia Tech (14). It's been a humbling 4-5 years now. But they will be back. In fact, I went to a game where Nebraska beat Oklahoma 69-7 in 1997. I recall my uncle at the time mentioning how he always wanted to go to an Oklahoma-Nebraska game but never imagined the rivalry would be so lopsided. Now the tables have turned and I am sure they will turn again ....and again.

They have been winning steadily for years now.. in fact They have never been a title contender before this year. Look over the years, they usually lose 4-5 games a year. Sure , that's a winning record and looks good on paper. But, this is not the NFL and any half ass team can finish with winning record due to selective scheduling the first 4 games. (Example: 2008 Nebraska)
Palehosefan
Well that was fun, have been at the stadium since 7 AM this morning for gameday. As for the Tech program. They have been consistently good for about 20 years now. Just haven't had the talent to take it to the next level until the past few years. Yeah, but there's divisions in college football. You have the elite, the great teams, the good teams and so on. Tech has raised their level to a great program right now, and have a chance to become elite for a year if they can keep it together.

Ok well having a winning season every year and going to Bowls every season still doesn't make them an impostor program.. they have been good for a while now I think you just tossed them in there because of how much Nebraska blows as a way to defend that Texas Techs downfall has been playing the elite teams and losing in the Big 12, however this year they got Texas. I doubt that they can beat Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and then the Big 12 title game but I hope they do. Either way, they aren't impostors. Missouri and Kansas on the other hand, you are dead on with them.

It would not surprise me in the least if the stayed at the elite level. So I do retract my statement. Something I can't say for Kansas or Mizzou. rangercal
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) Boy I hope my imposter Jayhawks kick the living crap out of the glorious and proud Cornhusker again next week. I do not see Nebraska returning to glory for a long time. The jayhawks may be the biggest impostor program of the last 20 years. Of course, Nebraska doesn't have to do much for the rest of my lifetime for me to be satisfied. 3 National titles in my lifetime. I'm willing to bet you won't be able to say that about your jayhawks if you live to see 90.
rangercal
Nebraska VS Kansas Kansas has also played a game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers as early as 1892, and annually since 1906.[9] This gives Kansas the second- and third-most played college football games in existence. KU is only 23-88-3 all-time against the Cornhuskers (as of 2007), and from 1969-2004 the Huskers rang up 36 consecutive victories, second longest in NCAA Division I (only Notre Dame's streak over Navy was longer). That streak ended on November 5, 2005, when Kansas defeated Nebraska 40-15 in Lawrence. They also beat Nebraska 76-39 in Memorial Stadium on November 3, 2007. This was the largest number of points ever surrendered by a Nebraska team; the Jayhawks also set records for most points against Nebraska in a half (1st half, 48 points) and quarter (2nd quarter, 27 points). The 95 points scored by the Jayhawks in 2006 and 2007 combined is the largest consecutive two-year total in the series. Also, the 32 points scored in an overtime loss at Nebraska on September 30, 2006, was the most by any Jayhawk team in Lincoln since 1899, when KU won 36-20 in the two teams' eighth all-time meeting.[10]
danman31
Well, on the upside those most points allowed in a half and a quarter records are no longer held by an 'imposter program.'

KU is a basketball school that has developed a half decent football program in the last few years. Will it last, probably not. In the meantime, we are enjoying the surprising success. Please answer me this, when is the last time Nebraska has beaten a top 25 team? Keep getting yourself off to old Tom Osborne videos and welcome to the current state of college football, you know the one where Nebraska is a joke and the imposter Kansas put up over 70 point on them. I guess now that Kansas and the White Sox have won championships in my lifetime, I shouid just stop caring and living in the f***ing past. What kind of fan enjoys watching his program/team suck and used the old "we beat your asses in the 1970's routine. get a life.

I will always look back at my teams accomplishments, no matter what. The present state of the program frustrates me as a fan, sure, but it is not the end of the world if they do not succeed in the near future. Kind of like how us White Sox fans felt a strange calmness during the playoffs this year (mostly due to already winning it in 2005) . Also, the Bulls 6 rings got me through all the tough times with them. That's my approach, if you don't like it, I could give a s***. Maybe your disappointed Husker fans are not crying in their beers. In college football the cream always rises to the top. I bet you thought USC and Oklahoma would never be heard of again in the 90's. I'll give you 2 words why you can't keep a good progam down: Program Prestige.
RockRaines
Wow, emotional fans on the board yesterday. Team are always one coach away from being an Elite team, remember that. Also, other than the UM fans on here, I dont think anyone appreciates how awful Michigan is this year. Worst team since 67? Wow.

whitesoxfan101
Program prestige means nothing now with 85 scholarship limits and all the games on television. It's all about who the coach is, because the only thing that makes or doesn't make a program long term in today's college football is the coach. danman31
It means way less than it used to. There are more 'prestigious' programs having bad stretches than ever before. I don't think that's a coincidence. It all comes down to coaching. If you have a good coach, you'll be good. If you have a bad coach, you'll be bad. The difference is that teams with deeper pockets can more likely lure those coaches away.
